    1. [VANORFOL-L] GenExchange Update
    2. Since releasing the first issue of our new newsletter--the Exchange--on January 1st, we have been pretty busy at the GenExchange trying to keep up with all the data submissions. We just reached the 190MB plateau and should cross well over 200MB by our two year anniversary that's coming up on February 7th. Currently 3-5MB is being added to the databases each week by our Project Volunteer Members, and by site visitors. Still the U.S. is a mighty big place and we would like to invite anyone who is willing to help us in our cause of permanetly archiving raw genealogical data with permanent free access, please visit the GenExchange (http://www.genexchange.com). We're still looking for anyone who would be interested in helping in states that do not currently have many (or any) Project Memeber Volunteers, or visitors entering much data. The GenExchange is a community project that relys on the support and assistance of everyone. There are currently 150 Project Member Volunteers who work on dedicated projects, but you need not be a full member to participate. Simply use the GenExchange to conduct research and submit any data you feel like submitting at your conveinence using the easy submission forms. Once you submit a record it is immediately available for other researchers to see. We will be making some fairly important announcements in the February issue of the Exchange due on February 1st; and will also be discussing what makes the GenExchange do what it does. We'll also be discussing our current plans to upgrade the family of servers that "serve" the GenExchange, and how it will improve capabilities for everyone who uses the GenExchange. We're also still accepting nominations for our new monthly award. The awarded web site will be prominently profiled on the main page of the GenExchange for the month and will compete with the other eleven monthly winners for a special award in January 2000. Back issues of the Exchange, as well as information about how to nominate your site for our award are located at http://www.genexchange.com/gesr/archive.cfm.
