Family lore has it that my g-g-grandfather (James M. Sullivan) arrived from Ireland with his father and siblings at Norfolk sometime in the 1810's or 1820's. He is believed to have grown up around Norfolk. I know that by 1850 he was living in Georgia near where I grew up. I'll be visiting Norfolk soon on business and would like to take the opportunity to research records that are available locally and are likely to help with uncovering more information about my g-g-grandfather. I would appreciate any recommendations you could make about the best places for me to go. Are there good sources in the Norfolk area or am I better off looking in Richmond?
