I am trying to find out more about the MASSINGHAM family members who emigrated to the USA from England (probably from the county of Norfolk in England). The earliest US entries I have found are in Virginia. I found references to the marriage bonds of James Massingham to Julia Shipwash in Norfolk County, Virginia, dated 18 December 1804, and to the marriage bond of James Massingham to Fanny Doudge, also in Norfolk County, Virginia, dated 17 March 1819. I do not know if these two James were the same person. Sarah Massingham and James Mills also made a marriage bond in Norfolk County, Virginia, on 16 January 1822. Given the rarity of the Massingham surname, it is reasonable to believe Sarah was related to James Massingham, but I have no proof of this. I would therefore be very grateful for any information on the MASSINGHAM (sometimes spelled MESSINGHAM) surname in the state of Virginia at any time, but especially around the beginning of the 19th century in Norfolk County. I am especially interested in any evidence of where they migrated from, and any descendants of James and Sarah Massingham. Many thanks, Best wishes, Greg ________________ Greg Harper Email at home: gregharper@wicken.demon.co.uk Email at work: gregory_p_harper@sbphrd.com Web sites: http://www.wicken.demon.co.uk Massingham family and other genealogy http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/4988 Massingham family genealogy continued http://members.spree.com/gregharper Photographs of family members and places of genealogical interest http://members.tripod.com/~gregharper Bloom family genealogy http://www.fortunecity.com/millennium/cslewis/122 Other names in my family tree
