James Aaron Chandler was employed by the Carpenter Construction Company in 1935. He was accidentally killed while working on a bridge. His wife Emma Jenkins Chandler died a few years later on February 18, 1937. They were the parents of 10 children. Emma's mother who was also named Emma and her husband Abram Jenkins raised the children in their home in a section of Norfolk, VA called Titustown. Some of the children were raised as Jenkins, the surname of their grandparents.
