    1. [VANORFOL-L] GenExchange - County & State Contacts
    2. Due to the many questions regarding our Sunday announcement I would like to add some additional comments. Many questions can already be answered by reading material posted to our Frequently Asked Questions page at http://www.genexchange.com/faq.cfm, our About the GenExchange page at http://www.genexchange.com/volunteers.cfm, and our How can I help page at http://www.genexchange.com/volunteering.cfm. I would suggest that anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of our project to start there. In addition, several announcements have been posted in the past regarding our plans, and can also be found in past issues of our monthly newsletter located at http://www.genexchange.com/gesr/archive.cfm, and in some online articles written about the GenExchange. There is a list of the most recent posted in the lower left of the main page of the GenExchange at http://www.genexchange.com Briefly, the GenExchange has been in operation for over two years and has grown tremendously since its beginning. We work with some pretty outstanding people who are completely selfless and have nothing in mind but to help the researchers out there. I hold myself to be very lucky to work with such a group as that. We do not view the GenExchange as being in competition with anyone, and I would not characterize what we have been doing for two years as reinventing anything. The GenExchange is all about providing free access to raw genealogical data and nothing more and was the first genealogy web site to provide the type of service that it does, although we’re beginning to see other sites adopt the same format which is truly outstanding. The GenExchange will continue to do the very best it can for the researcher and will continue with its long planned project to allow dedicated genealogists to adopt existing state GenExchange pages; allow dedicated genealogists to adopt county GenExchange web sites; and to eventually create Country GenExchange sites which will be similarly organized as the USGenExchange. Anyone interested in adopting a New York county should see http://www.genexchange.com/counties.cfm?state=ny As announced on Sunday, Virginia and Iowa will be opened for adoption in April with other states being opened at a rate of one to two per month after that.
