    1. [VANORFOL-L] Adult or minor????
    2. In 1811, in Princess Anne Co., Va., Richard Pebworth owned a horse and a slave. Does this indicate that he was an adult or in those days, could a minor own a horse and a slave? Richard did not marry until 1819. Thank you. Clare Pebworth

    1. [VANORFOL-L] The GenExchange is Moving
    2. We had previouly announced on the site that the GenExchange would be down tomorrow from 2pm to 6pm while we moved our servers to their new service provider, however there has been a change of plans. We are going to make the move today after noon, so the GenExchange will be down today from 1pm to 3pm. Because the move also means DNS host table changes at Internic, you may be unable to connect to the GenExchange before those changes propogate across all the Internic name servers on the internet. Place holders for the site will be left at our old service provider while we wait for the DNS modifications. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the move will pay immediate dividends to you all. The move will allow us immediate access to increased bandwidth for the site (we're doubling the bandwidth we have right now) which will mean faster surfing and retrieval of information. ----- Anthony Abby

    1. [VANORFOL-L] William KEYSER, b. 1755? Norfolk. Revolution...
    2. Vincent Edward Summers
    3. I have established a new KEYSER maillist to seek out William KEYSER, believed to have been born in NORFOLK, VA. Can anyone tell me anything at all about him existing at one time in NORFOLK? We are a group of researchers, some with years of research, who are downright *stumped* on this fellow. He fought in the revolution. He married a Kesiah or Keziah, probably SNEAD, but maybe also HARRIS. At any rate, to join our maillist, if you wish, send a blank email to [email protected] with only the word subscribe in the subject header and the body. Thank you, Vince

    1. [VANORFOL-L] Norfolk Co. Archives Needs Your Help!
    2. Jeannie
    3. The Norfolk County Archives Project really needs your help. There have been no new files submitted to the project since January!!! I became the archivist for the page in April, and have had nothing new for the county since that time. If you have any documents that you could transcribe for the project, they sure could be used. If you are unfamiliar with the Archives Project, please take a moment and visit the page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/va/norfolk.htm There are some files already in place there, and quite a bit of work has went into the page since April, so stop on by & see what you think. Any kind of document containing genealogical information can be submitted, like Bible records, wills, deeds, obituaries, census entries, births, deaths, marriages, & military records to give you some ideas. If you would like to submit a file & need more info, please contact me. Thanks! Jeannie Watts Archivist

    2. Lynn Glocker-Condley
    3. Hi All, I too am looking for information on the Norfolk area in and about 1845-1865. I am researching PEYTON. Marietta Peyton was my gr-gr grandmother. She was born in Norfolk, VA in 1845. I have looked at the census but found nothing that seemed to match. I would like to know how I would find a birth record on her, and her parents and siblings. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreicated. 1. [VANORFOL-L] Adoption/Guardianship
    2. Would someone be kind enough to tell me where I should direct mail regarding guardianship papers. I believe this would have been awarded by the Courts, Child Protection Services or The department of Social Services, because the father of the children in question was killed on the job, and the mother died shortly thereafter. The children had living grandparents, but I am unsure if they were allowed to just resume the care of the children or had to go through the legal system. Surely there must have been a need for financial assistance. This would have occurred in between 1935 and 1940. Please include a phone number if possible. Thank you, Clara

    1. [VANORFOL-L] Whitehurst
    2. I have a SARAH WHITEHURST, dau. of DREW WHITEHURST and RACHEL (____), granddau. of BATSON WHITEHURST who married JAMES PEBWORTH, JR., Dec. 31, 1791. Sarah was dead by Aug.1801 when James Pebworth, Jr. married FANNIE EDMONDS. James Pebworth, Jr. was dead by June 1805 when Fannie married CALVIN HURD. I'm not sure if they were in Norfolk Co. or Princess Anne Co. I know the Whitehursts intermarried with the DOZIERS and so did the son of RICHARD PEBWORTH. QUESTIONS: 1) Does anyone know of the children of Sarah (Whitehurst) and James Pebworth, Jr.? 2) Was one of their children RICHARD PEBWORTH? 3) Could someone please tell me where I should write to find guardianship info for any of their children? Thanks for any suggestions or help. Clare Pebworth
