    2. Susan H Wilson
    3. You can check later personal property tax lists, and see when he disappears from those. There's a pretty complete collection of personal property tax lists from the 1790's to 1850. You can view it at the Library of Virginia. They will not send it out on interlibrary loan. I have not found it available anywhere in the Norfolk area either. I asked at the library and at the courthouse. 1. [VANORFOL] Question
    2. Donald Soward
    3. Good afternoon everyone, I am hoping someone might be able to help. My ggreatgrandfather was Gideon Davis. I have had no luck finding anymore information on him other than he was born in Virginia. What I am hoping is maybe there is a native of Norfolk/Norfolk County/ Old Princess Anne County (City of Virginia Beach), that will be able to tell me some of the old old cemeteries in the area. where I can write and see if he might be buried in one of them. I am also 100% certain that he faught in the Civil War . Also, newspapers, if anyone would know how far back they would go, maybe I could locate a Obit. for him I have no dates on him. One of his children was born 1868-1869 I also found in the 1870 a Gideon Davis which I believe is him and his age is listed as 44. Thank you all for your time Patti

    1. [VANORFOL] What happens to a 2 year old orphan in 1834????
    2. I have a JAMES NORRISS PEBWORTH, b. 1831, Princess Anne Co., Va. His mother, SUSAN B. (NORRISS) d. ca 1831. His father, RICHARD PEBWORTH, was deceased by Jan. 1834. His grandfather, JAMES NORRISS died ca March 1834. He had a sister MARTHA ANN PEBWORTH b. ca 1820 (m. RICHARD LAND, Jan. 1, 1839, Norfolk, Va.) In 1834, James would have been a 2 year old orphan with an older sister who would have been a minor. Where should I check to see what would have happened to James as an infant. I know in later years he attended a military school. Were there homes for orphans? Would he have been assigned to some family? Just need some guidance. Thanks, Clare Pebworth

    1. [VANORFOL] Roll call: Whitehurst, Lewelling, Land, Pebworth
    2. I have really been stuck and would really appreciate any direction to go in my search. My ancestor is RICHARD PEBWORTH who married SUSAN B. NORRIS in 1819, Norfolk or P.A. Co. In 1834 the heirs to property of SARAH PEBWORTH (Don't know if this would be 1) RICHARD PEBWORTH 2 ) SARAH PEBWORTH, JR. 3) WILLIAM B. PEBWORTH (m. Ann Warren) 4) THOMAS WILKINS (Thomas married Nancy Pebworth in 1815) It is my belief that Richard Pebworth "Could be" the son of 1) WILLIAM PEBWORTH and SUSANNA (BENTHALL) 2) JAMES PEBWORTH and SARAH (WHITEHURST) 3) THOMAS PEBWORTH and SARAH (LEWELLING) I lean toward James Pebworth and Sarah (WHITEHURST) as Richard's parents because of the name Richard and because Richard had 2 children and his dau. Martha married RICHARD LAND. The Land family was connected to the Whitehursts. If you have any info re: these families, I would really appreciate receiving some direction and suggestions. I don't want you to do my work for me!!!!! Thanks in advance. Clare Pebworth [email protected]

I found some residential street addresses for various individuals and would like a better understanding of the city at the time. Is there a Norfolk City Historical Society or Museum? Ben
