Plus! they had a fire in the microfische room a week or so ago............ I'm hoping none of the very old 1795 newspaper films were not hurt or damaged. See if I have this straight, Capt. Thomas Willoughby, b. abt 1598, had a son Thomas Willoughby, b. 25 Dec 1632, who m. Sarah Thompson, was the father of the illegitimate Thomas of the Southern Branch, b. Nov 15-Dec 15 1654 and d. Jan 8-Mar 16 1710/11. Was he also the father of the Thomas Willoughby who died 4 Feb 1711/12-16 May 1712, the one who married Margaret Herbert? Regards, Joan
My records show: >Thomas Willoughby was the illegitimate son of Mary Bennet, maid >servant of Capt. Thos. Willoughby and the Captain's son, also Thomas >Willoughby. This Thomas is called Thomas Willoughby of the Southern >Branch. I have the court papers about this and it was interesting >to note the Thomas Willoughby (son of Captain W) had to pay tobacco >as a fine, not money. > >Mary then married John Herbert. > >Thomas was born between November 15 and December 15, 1654 according >the Court Records of Norfolk County. > >He was married sometime around 1674 or after. According to his will >he had three sons and six daughters. His wife was not named in his >will so I suspect she was already dead. > >He wrote his will on January 4, 1710/11 and it was proved on March >16, 1710/11. > >One of his daughters was Elizabeth Willoughby who married John >Herbert III. Elizabeth's sister Ann chose John Hebert as her >guardian when her father died. > >His son, John WIlloughby of Blackwater, Princess Anne County, >married Elizabeth Deall and they had a daughter named Elizabeth >Willoughby who married John Herbert IV. My sources for this information are the Lower Norfolk County Record Books, B, C, and D, 1632- 1660 Book C, Pgs 105, 110, and Alice G. Walter, [IT:Willoughby - Herbert lines of the Southern Branch:IT] Pg. 98:]. Best wishes, Barbara
Thank you for your reply Charlie - I will look into the Herbert family as well has the Hills and Eastwoods and see what I can find out how they connect to my Willoughby's. Joan
