I am the CC for the Norfolk County website, and the 'manager'of the mailing list. First I want to welcome everyone who has joined us on the Norfolk County mailing list. and invite you to post the families you are researching to the list to see if any of you are researching the same lines. I would also like to ask for your assistance in building up our website I would love to get some more records at the site. I think it would be good to have more information at the Norfolk County page, at a central location - the Norfolk County Website; and well indexed so people can find them better. Do any of you live back there and have access to public records? Norfolk Co is one of the oldest counties and although I don't have any ancestors there(that I know of that is) I think it's worthwhile to build up the Norfolk Co site because there should be a lot of people interested in the area. Not only public records, but old pictures, and any historical articles that are not covered by copyright I would love to see on the site-to let people get the feel of the area and what it was like for our ancestors. I would appreciate any help you can give to the Norfolk County site. I also have the Gilmer County, WV website and have just started a page there for Family GEDCOM files that people can download to their system. Would any of you be interested in having a page for that at Norfolk County? I am related to a Rev John H. DAVIDSON who was at one time pastor of the GHENT METHODIST CHURCH in Norfolk - no date on this. At the same time whenever he was at Ghent, he was also a trustee of Randolph-Macon Academy as well as a trustee of Randolph-Macon College - where is this college?? This man was probably born about 1880. I have his business card saying that he minister of Springfield United Methodist Church (don't know where this is) - the card gives his home address as Joffa Place and his office as Old Keene Mill Rd. Again no dates. Does anyone recognize these addresses as being in Norfolk area? I was told that he once preached around D.C. as well, and it may be that Springfield is the one sw of Alexandria. Really have nothing else to go on except that he visited family members in Martinsburg WV area from time - maybe as recently as the 30's or 40's?? Would love to learn anything that I can about this guy. ESPECIALLY INTERESTED IN OBITUARY AND DEATH NOTICE, probably after the 1930's. I really know nothing about him - need names of WIFE and CHILDREN, as well as SIBLINGS. His father was also a Rev John H. Davidson (1851-1915).
After many years, I am now getting back to my research. I am looking for the parents of RICHARD PEBWORTH who in 1819 (P.A. Co. or Norfolk) married MISS SUSAN B. NORRISS, dau. of JAMES NORRISS. William Pebworth and Martha (Holmes) had 9 children of which James and Thomas were under 21 when Martha wote her will in 1767. In 1783 THOMAS PEBWORTH and SARAH (LEWELLING) are listed as having 4 children in their household. I have found WILLIAM PEBWORTH (1775-1820) who in 1796 married SUSANNA BENTHALL ABIGAIL PEBWORTH who in 1798 married THOMAS BURGESS MARTHA PEBWORTH who in 1796 married WM. BENTHALL JAMES PEBWORTH, JR who in 1791 married 1st: SARAH WHITEHURST; 2nd: FANNY EDMONDS. In 1808, Richard Pebworth was owed $8.12 by THOMAS PEBWORTH, decd and SALLY PEBWORTH, so Richard must have been an adult by then. In 1834, the heirs to the property of SARAH PEBWORTH were: RICHARD PEBWORTH SARAH PEBWORTH, JR. WILLIAM B. PEBWORTH (1797-1835 - m. 1822 ANN WARREN) THOMAS WILKINS (NANCY PEBWORTH m. THOMAS WILKENS, 1815, P.A. Co. I know William B. Pebworth was always lending money to Richard Pebworth. William B. Pebworth (1797-1835) was the son Of WILLIAM PEBWORTH (1775-1820); and grandson of THOMAS PEBWORTH (d. 1799) and SARAH (LEWELLING) RICHARD PEBWORTH and SUSAN NORRIS had 2 children: 1) MARTHA b. ca 1820, who married RICHARD LAND, 1839, Norfolk 2) JAMES NORRISS PEBWORTH, b. 1831 P.A. Co., who married MARY CORNELIA DOZIER (Long time between children. Susan d. right after 1831 and Richard d. ca 1834. Richard is not a common name in the Pebworth family but it is in the Whitehurst and Lewelling families. i APOLOGIZE FOR THE LENGTH OF THIS but I have always believed "You need 52 cards to play". I would appreciate any assistance on any of the above people. Thank you very much. I'm looking for information on the family of Alwyn Bertram Bell, b. Oct. 7, 1888, Norfolk, supposedly the 4th son of William Bell and Virginia (Roby or Robby). William and Virginia had 9 boys and 1 girl. Cleveland, known as Cleve was the oldest boy and some of the others were Ernest, George, Edward and Robert. Rhoda was the girl and she supposedly moved to Texas. Alwyn married Alice Pebworth and after her death, he married her sister Esther Virginia Pebworth. They lived in Norfolk. One of Alwyn's daughters who is now 86 said that as a child, she remembers visiting Alwyn's parents so they must have lived close to Norfolk. Does anyone know anything about this family?
