VAN ARNUM, Stephen, Male, Aug. 28, 1847; parents: Christian & Esther Van Arnum http://www.newhorizonsgenealogicalservices.com/ny-birth-schoharie-fulton.htm 1850 census Fulton, Schoharie, NY: Christian age 26 and Hester Van Arnem family: Stephen 2, Selina 11m Stephen Van Norman's military record on Ancestry.com includes a record of his enlistment in Louisiana in 1869 that states he was 21, born Fulton Co., NY and discharged in San Antonio, TX in 1871. Another record, U.S. National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, 1866-1938 Record for Stephen Van Norman (Ancestry.com http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/view.aspx?dbid=1200&path=Hampton.Registers.W.815&sid=&gskw=Stephen+Van+Norman), includes a more complete record: 2 enlistments (includes one previous to the above) residence subsequent to discharge: New Orleans, LA occupation: clerk admission to home Oct 14, 1899 date of death Mar 26, 1900, hepatic cyrrhosis [*sic*] married effects to widow Katie T. Van Norman, 619 Philip St., New Orleans, LA (identified as wife in another place same document) Buried in "new national cemetery grave #7912" age 52, 5'9", grey eyes, light hair, literate, Catholic 1900: Kate T. Van Norman is enumerated at 619 Philip St., New Orleans Ward 10, Orleans, Louisiana. She is a widow living with her brother Alphonse Cahill and sisters. She has 3 children: Stephen, Agnes, and Raymond. Her birth year is listed incorrectly as 1864. All other census say 1860. 1910: her children, Stephen, Agnes, and Raymond, are listed as living with same aunts and uncle in an extended family unit headed by Joseph Kuebel (Ancestry transcribed Knabel), in New Orleans. Kate is not listed. In the book I list below, she died in 1907. 1920: Agnes M. [Van Norman] Bailey, 31, widowed, identified (incorrectly I think) as born Missouri, is living in New Orleans with her children Charles H., Stephen, and VanNorman Bailey, her mother in law Elizabeth Bailey, sister in law Henrietta, her brother Stephen J. Van Norman and his family, wife Nell, and son John J. I found Agnes's husband Charles H. Bailey enumerated in 1880 3rd Ward, Saint Bernard, Louisiana, son of Charles H. and Elizabeth. He was born in Oct 1879 in Louisiana. I can't account for the Missouri birthplace for Agnes except that it is enumerator or informant's error. 1930: Agnes V. N. Bailey is head of family in New Orleans, age 41 b LA. : sis in law Henrietta a school teacher, and sons Chas Henry 16, Stephen J. 14, and Van Norman Bailey 12. In the published book below, Katherine Theresa Cahill's husband is listed as John J. Van Norman who died in 1921 and buried in the Owen Cahill tomb, St. Joseph Cemetery. The author identifies Katherine's children and their spouses which coincides with the census info above. *The Descendants of Charles A. Kuebel 1830-1920 and Owen Cahill 1834-1898* http://vstreff.com/_genealogy/PrintFiles/Kuebel-Cahill_book.pdf I can't account for this error in naming her spouse, but a published record is hard to refute without the documents I've described.
