Mary Ann Van Ornum's (1799-1893), d/o Abraham Van Ornum and Sarah Pratt, obit. On monday April 20, Mrs. Mary Ann Knox passed away to her heavenly reward at the ripe age of 92.She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Van Ornum who came to this county from Essex County in the early days of 1813.At that time the townships of Russell and Hermon were unbroken forest save here and there small clearings made by the axe of early settlers.Mrs. Knox descended from a family noted for longevity-both her father and mother lived to be over 80 years old.One of her brothers died at the age of 87 another at the age of 92. She was married to Mr. Eri Knox December 25,1832. Four children were born to them: Chauncy,Henry,Lewis, and Ellen (Mrs. E.A. Conant).Mr. and Mrs. Knox settled in the town of Russell, which even in that date, was largely timberland.Through their enterprise and forethought they soon accumulated property by which they were enabled to give bountifully to the poor.Mr.Knox died in August 1874 at the age of 64 years.Mrs. Knox united with the Baptist Church at the early age of 17 years and for 75 years she lived a consistant Christian life. What a testimony is such a life to the power of Christianity. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor,Rev. E.A.Hooper at her home on Washington Street wednesday afternoon at one-o-clock. (unknown source; Hermon, New York; unknown date) It mentions a brother dieing age 92. This would be Harry van Ornum (1804-1896). I don't know who is the brother d. age 87. Also, as stated, I don't know the original source (and it's unedited from my source; I assume the original has correct spaces).
