Hi Leslie, I am working on the Samuel Van Norman line - who is mentioned below - actually his father is an Isaac Van Norman also. My Samuel Van Norman was listed in the 1790 Northampton Co., PA census and lived there until he died in 1847. He was born in 1762. He could possibly be your Isaac's father. I have not accounted for all his children as of yet. I had thought that Joseph Van Norman line of Smithfield and my line where connected - but have not made the connection. I have the same list of soldiers - don't know what the designations mean. I wrote to the PA State Archives and got the record for Samuel Van Norman - not much of a record he was with the 2nd Company, 5th Battalion in 1782 and 5th Company, 5th Battalion, 1784. They sent the payment records from 1838 until 1847 when he died. He received $20 every 6 months. Sometimes they sent only one check a year for $40. I was hoping to get pension application papers - their were none. I believe that the Ephraim and Isaac listed are the sons of Joseph that is listed. I also think Samuel and William may be brothers. The Isaac that is listed could also be the father of Samuel and William. Did you say you had someone do the DNA testing for the Vanormans? The listing is from a book entitled the Pennsylvania Archives Volume VIII, published 1906, page 397. I did a search on books.google.com for Isaac Vannorman and this reference came up among others. Its a listing for the county of Northampton. When you use the Google books site - and a reference shows up - it tells how many instances there are in the books listed when you pull up the book. Not all books are online but there are a good many, including several that are out of print. I use this resource often.
