Interment at Prospect Hill cemetery. ****************************************************************************************************** JACOB VAN AERNAM PASSES AWAY AT HOME IN ALTAMONT On Tuesday of this week, Jacob Van Aernam, native of Altamont, sixty-four years old passed away at his home. Funeral services were conducted at his late home on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. Roscoe M. Giles, pastor of the Altamont Reformed church, assisted by Rev. A. A. Frederick, pastor of St. John's Luther church. Mrs. Irving Lainhart sang. The service was attended by many relatives and friends from Altamont and out of town, a large delegation of members of Noah Lodge and of Helderberg Chapter, O. E. S., being present. Noah Lodge No. 754 F. & A. M., conducted a Masonic service at the grave. Burial was in the family plot in Prospect Hill cemetery at Guilderland. Undertaker Harry Fredendall had charge of the funeral arrangements. "Jake," as he was known by everyone, loved the companionship of his friends. He had a wide acquaintanceship gained from his chosen occupation as a salesman. He was happiest when at home surrounded by friends. His activities in Masonry, up to the time of his forced retirement, gave him the added enjoyment of being with people. He was twice chosen as master of Noah Lodge, No. 754, F. & A. M., of Altamont, was a member of Temple Commandery No. 2, of Cyprus Shrine, and of Helderberg Chapter, O. E. S. He was interested in the affairs of the village, serving as trustee and then as president of the village. The sewer system was completed during his term of office in 1918. He was a director of the Albany County Agricultural society, and also was proud company. He was also a trustee of the Altamont Public library, and rendered valuable service. Mr. Van Aernam was married September 29, 1886 to Ella Heck. His wife and J. H. Van Aernam of Albany, survive him. No better expression of his character can be made than the quotation of Laratin which hung over his desk: " The most I can do for my friend is simply to be his friend. I have no wealth to bestow upon him. If he knows that I am happy in loving him he will want no other reward." Obituary Source newspaper clipping from Hon. & Mrs. Franklin M.
