Tim, I believe what Grace is saying is that Ephraim VAUSE is the one in the Virginia records and not Ephraim VANCE, I hope I have that right. I agree that sharing information is important, not only so we can clear up some of the inaccurate information floating around, but also because another researcher may happen to have a record that may not mean much to them, but could be the one that will break down another researchers brick walls. I also believe that sources and documentation are the most important part of genealogy, my definition of documents/documentation are records generated during the time the person was living, including bible records and personal letters. Until we find the records to prove the information we have to be careful that we aren't leading others, especially new researchers, down a false path and many wasted years of research. If they understand that the information may not be correct, but they still want to follow the lead, then that is their choice and they are certainly free to do that. Unfortunately it doesn't always work that way, people list other people as their resources or don't list resources at all and include the possible faulty info in their lines, then they share it and it spreads over and over loosing the part about "this hasn't been proven" and becomes fact. But I also encourage everyone to post their information to the list, that way others can let them know if they see incorrect data in their file. This list has a few experienced Vance researchers on it, so this is a good chance to find out if you are heading in the wrong direction. There are now 53 people subscribed to this list, if you haven't posted your Vance information please do so, you may find a few cousins. Now if someone could just untangle the WEBB file I found that lists it's source as LDS over and over, I will be happy. For now though according to that file it seems my 4th great grandmother was a sister to her father. By the way, if anyone is interested in sharing their Vance records (bible records, wills, census, death, marriage, birth, or other records). I will be happy to start a page for that. I was planning on doing it eventually, but so far I haven't had time to. Sonya Vance Woosley
