Ephriam VAUSE is well documented in several Virginia books. Ehpriam VANCE --NEVER--appeared in any Virginia records . On one occasion someone misread court records and wrote Ephriam VA-N-SE rather than Va-U-se and henceforth , the confusion. Levi VANCE never appears in any Virginia or North Carolina record. Abner Vance had a son , John, who had a son, Levi, who had a son, Abner. someone, without thinking recorded (in LDS) Abner as son of Levi which is correct, but the wrong Levi and Abner, these were running about 100 years late. The only 2 proven offspring of Ephriam and Theodosia VAUSE are son William and daughter Levisi, the VFA has data on them. Others documented, but unnaned, are the daughter who did not return from Indian captivity and the son who is said to have been at the mill during the last attack on the fort. This family remained VAUSE and use that name today. Abner VANCE was a VANCE as early as 1767 and his family has been VANCE since that date. There is absolutely nothing to indicate Abner was a VAUSE .
