I was notified that the message that follows was not posted to the list because of its HTML format, yet I have seen what appears to be one response to it (thank you, Grace Dotson!). I am re-posting it in case it reached only a small portion of the list. I apologize to anyone who's ploughed through it already. I am descended from James COLVILLE, Sr. (1695-1777), who was married to Ann VANCE (b. 1700 in Ireland), who was a daughter of Andrew VANCE and Jane HOGE. What I am wondering, mainly, is where the Vance family originated (presumably Scotland, but does anyone have a more precise idea of where?). Why did they settle in Northern Ireland and when?
