We are trying to nail down the parents of Marcena (Marcella? Marsina?) Vance who was born in what is now WV (parents b. VA) in about Aug 1827-28. Marcena married widower Alexander Reeves of Springfield and Cantrall, Fancy Creek Twp., in 1846. She was 18, he was 53. Marcena's father was said to be a fur trapper in the winter and a "riverboat captain" for the rest of the year, perhaps on the Ohio River. The Vance family may have lived in other states before getting to Sangamon Co. by 1846 or earlier. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions? Thanks, Carole Hammond, Portland, OR
