I'm afraid that I can't help your with your Mathew's parentage but I am interested in your Thomas Vance, son of Mathew. You didn't mention what state they were in but I have Marcena Vance, b. abt 1828 in what is now WV. Thomas J. Vance bought the widow Marcena Reeves' farm at a Sheriff's auction in Fancy Creek Twp., Sangamon Co., IL in about 1864 and sold it back to her for the same price. We have no idea how he was related to Marcena. Could he have been her brother? Do you have the names of your Thomas's siblings? In her later years Marcena used the name Marcella.
