Woody, James and his wife Barbara went from what is now WV and were in Jackson Co., OH in the early 1840s and then moved back to Boone Co., VA by 1850 and from there I don't know where he went for 20 years. His wife evidently divorced him and remarried to a Mr. Glassburn back in Liberty, Jackson Co., OH in 1858. Some of their kids had married in OH and then went on to Sangamon Co., IL at various times. She ended up with some of the kids from IL who went to Labette Co. KS I think James had itchy feet and didn't stay put. It sure makes it hard to follow him! I was hoping that someone may have found him in the 1860 census. Thanks! Carole Hi Carole.......I would think he was in Logan Co., W.Va.....My grandma was a Vance from Mingo Co., W,.Va and married a Workman from Ky........My grandma goes back thru. this line to Abner and beyond......I don't think he ended up in N.C with some of the other Vances..... He died in Labette Co., Kansas in 1872 and I believe that he is the James Vance living with a Mary A. Vance in the 1870 Osage Twp, Labette Co., KS census. Anyone out there working on Abner's boy James??? Does anyone have a Jane VANCE who married Benjamin Perry? (This was his second marriage) They married 1845 in Brown County, IL. Benjamin born about 1807 in TN. Benjamin died 1876 in Bates County, MO. Jane born about 1825,TN. died ?, guessing Bates County, MO. The Perrys had family in Montgomery & Labette Counties in Kansas.
