    1. [Vance] Vance and Ball families in NJ & PA
    2. Gary Richardson
    3. My Vance line begins with my grandmother, Caroline Homan Vance, daughter of the Rev Edward Dunn Vance and Annie Kellogg Hammond. Edward was a Presbyterian minister, born in PA, moved to Kinsman, OH, where Carol was born, and wound up in Worcester, MA, where he died about 1905. Caroline met my grandfather, Allen Haven Richardson, while he was a student at WPI, and they moved to Westfield, NJ, the state where that Vance line lived before PA. Sorry if that's confusing! Edward Dunn Vance was the son of another Presbyterian minister, Joseph Vance and Hannah Ball, of the NJ Ball family. Joseph was born in NJ but lived mostly in PA. I believe that Joseph was the son of John Vance and Rachel Homan (hence my grandmother's middle name) but can find very little to document that. I'm hoping there may be others on the Vance mailing list more familiar with this family. Going forward, the last male Vance in this line that I know of was Edward Hammond Vance, Caroline's brother (born 1890 in Kinsman, OH). In the 1930 census, Edward was in the funeral home business as a partner in a firm outside Chicago, IL. I'd love to know if anyone is a descendant of this Edward, as well. Both my uncle (Vance Richardson) and my cousin (Stephen Vance Richardson) kept the Vance name alive, but alas, we have no living male descendants for DNA testing. I participate in the Richardson DNA project, but as my closest Vance relative was my grandmother, my results won't help much with the Vance study. Gary Allen Richardson PS I have dates for most of the ancestors named above, if anyone is interested. _________________________________________________________________ i’m is proud to present Cause Effect, a series about real people making a difference. http://im.live.com/Messenger/IM/MTV/?source=text_Cause_Effect
