This comes under the heading "for what it's worth." It's from The History of McDonough Co., IL, 1885, pub. Springfield, IL. I am not related to these people (to my knowledge) and I don't have any more information about them. ~~~~~~~~~~~ A John Vance moved there in 1826...and then went back to get his wife and family in Sangamon Co. His son James was born in McDonough Co. on 18 May 1828, on Sec. 30, Job's Settlement, now known as Blandinsville. In another place in the book it said that baby James was born on Sec. 29 in 1830. Vance moved his family to Iowa in 1854 and died there in 1866. Mrs. Vance (not named) was a native of VA whose family moved to KY and then to Sangamon Co., IL. 1830....John Vance was appointed as one of the County Commissioners. John Vance's daughter Sarah and husband John T. Haggerty m. 1839 lived in Blandinsville Twp, McDonough Co., IL in the 1840s. In the section on the Haggerty family it says that the Vances were from Indiana....something not mentioned in the section about her mother and father. The 1st marriage in Industry, IL...1828....John Wilson (the son of Hugh Wilson) and Margaret "Mattie" R. Vance (b. 1804) daughter of James. They settled on section 23 of Industry Twp. They were said to be natives of TN. The "Districts" were 8 miles wide and ran E-W through the county. James Vance lived in the 1st district, and John Vance lived in the 3rd district. The elections for their districts were held in their houses. James Vance Sr. was elected as a J.P.....it doesn't mention if he is one and the same as James in the 1st district. The Honorable James Vance and James Vance, Esq. are mentioned. James Vance, Sr. died 7 Dec 1835. John Vance was still active in county politics 1848. James Vance and Helen A. Miller married in McDonough Co on 25 Aug 1831 by Rev. Bogart. Frances Miller and Thomas Bridges were married the same day by James Vance, Justice of the Peace. Mary Ann Vance was the 3rd wife of John Meyers who went to McDonough Co. in 1853. No date for her marriage.....she named her children Lucy, Alice and Charlie. There was a Vance Cemetery in the County....possibly in Industry Twp. John W. Miller, nephew of James Vance, lived on Sec. 13, Industry Twp. He was the son of Lernie B. and Amy Bridges Miller of TN. Uncle James took him in at the age of 2yrs in 1840 and Uncle James Vance died on 27 Sep 1872. Catherine M. Vance m. Henry C. Sullivan in about 1862 in Industry.
