My Marcella "Marcena" Vance married Alexander Reeves in Sangamon Co., IL in 1846. She was born abt 1827 in what is now WV and her family lived for a while in OH. Her father was "a riverboat captain" on the Ohio River and I would imagine that they lived in several states. I don't know who he was or what became of him. Widowed Marcena moved to Portland, Oregon in about 1875...alone with her youngest 4 children, all under the age of 10. We can't imagine that she came here not knowing someone already here.
