Would there have been an obituary or article in the newspaper for the death of James Vance who had lived in Osage Twp, Labette Co., according to the 1870 census. He died 8 May 1872 and is buried in the Harmony Grove Cemetery near Dennis. His granddaughter, Mary Alice Vance Newton, said that he died 4 miles East of Cherryvale, which would put his death place about 2 miles into Labatte Co. A man that I believe to be his son, James H. Vance lived in Cherryvale in 1920 and his son George W. Vance was farming his place. I don't know where or when he died. Thomas J. Vance died 25 Mar 1913 but I don't know where and I don't think that he is buried at Harmony Grove Cemetery....or if he is there is no tombstone. Since these people either lived in Cherryvale or very near it would their death notices have been in the local newspaper or was there one in Dennis or another town in Labatte Co.? Would some kind soul have time to look it up for me? Especially the James who died in 1872. Thanks so much, Carole in faraway Oregon
