His grandfather is Charles Walter Vance, son of William M Vance and Elizabeth Wagner/Waggoner. William M is the son of John Vance and Louisa Williamson. John first appears in the 1850 Census in Boone, Greene County, Missouri with four children: William age 11 (Born Nov. 1839 per 1900 census), Joseph age 9, Elizabeth age 7 and Rebecca age 2. They appear again in 1860 Boone, Greene County, Missouri with one more child, Frances E b. ca 1851. Family is listed under VAUNCE in 1860 As of 1870 Louisa is with her son, Joseph M. Joseph is listed as head of household. In the household are his sisters, Elizabeth age 24 and Frances age 18. I found William married in 1870 to Sarah C with two children in the home: John B age 3 and Mary age 1. I don't know if John is deceased by 1870 and have not found him in any other census. 1880 Louisa is listed as widow so have presumed that John died between 1860 and 1880.Both families are in Morgan, Dade, Missouri in 1870. I did find a John Vance that fits from 1840 in Greene County, Missouri. He is listed with one male under 5 and a female 20-30. In 1830 there is an older John Vance listed in Wayne County, Missouri who would fit as the father of our John Vance, but, I have not confirmed this. This line eventually moved west to Central California around Tulare and Fresno County and into Southern California, Los Angeles County. Does anyone have any help on the parents of our John Vance who married Louisa Williamson, or her parents? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!
