Lida Cook no longer seems interested in following this family. Could be wrong, but no one hears from her. She lived in Frederick, Ohio, and if I am correct, she was married to my dad's cousin, whose mother was a sister to my grandmother who lived nearby on Troy Frederick road. 1. [Vance] Vance boys from Logan Co. to Monroe Co., VA
    2. Carole Hammond
    3. Does anyone happen to know why brothers James and Abner Vance, Jr. happened to go to Monroe Co., VA in the early 1820s to get married when there were plenty of girls in Cabell Co. (now Logan Co.), VA to marry? James Vance married Barbara E. Miller on 20 Nov 1820 in Monroe Co., VA. Abner Vance, Jr. married Jane Perry there sometime about 1823 and probably earlier. What took them so far from home? Somewhere I had run across a surveyor by the name of Miller in early Cabell Co. Records. Could he have been one of Barbara Miller's relatives? Thanks, Carole

In that picture is an elderly lady named Rose Barrand along with a Gertrude Vance and her children, Don and Regina. Don appears to be 10 - 12 years old and Regina about 8 - 10 years old. I'm not sure what her relationship is/was to either Mrs. Barrand or my dad. I would glady share this photo. Incidentally, brother Clifford moved to Ohio. I did receive your reply. Malinda apparently did not keep this Bible throughout her life. Rather, she bought it 2 years before she died and filled in her immediate family as best she could, but she made several errors. There is nothing more in the Bible beyond what I sent you. Malinda is 6 or 7 rows from the front of the cemetery, between the 2 entrance roads, but closer to the south road. There is no stone for her, but there are stones for her son John Henry Abraham, and for John's son Leslie and Leslie's wife Myrtle. John Henry bought the lot when his mother died, so it must have been to bury her. Her death certificate says she is buried in Mt. Orab Cemetery. I do not know where James Geren Wardlow is buried, but I think it must be the "Brown" Cemetery on Buford-Bardwell Road just inside Highland Co. Malinda's father Robert Hirons is buried there, as is her daughter Marilla. I suspect that her first husband Anthony Clinton Abraham may also be buried there. There is no other nearby cemetery that makes any sense. James G. may be buried at Brown's Chapel, just because so many other Wardlow's are buried there. There were so many Wardlow's in Brown Co that most any cemetery could have been called the "Wardlow" Cemetery at some point. There is a Wardlow Cemetery on Wardlow Road, another off Stephan Road near the banks of White Oak Creek (I have never been able to find this one). There is another cemetery along the little road that run along Turkey Hole Run north off Stephan Road. Another just east of New Hope-White Oak Station Road along Goose Run. Another on Day Hill-Arnhem Road. Keep in touch. Tom. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It would be very helpful in my research. I was going to Brown's Chapel but it was raining and I did not get to go. I am hoping to find James Geren Wardlow tombstone. What section is Malinda C. Wardlow in Mt Orab Cemetery? In the 1910 census show Malinda living next to the Flora Wardlow Martin in Scott Twp. I tried to e-mail but I am unsure that it went through. I sometimes don't get through for whatever reason. Thank-you Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [Vance] Myrtle Vance of Paris, Texas ~ Murdered in 1893
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: BasketLady420 Surnames: Vance Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.vance/3137/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The February 1, 1893 murder of Henry Smith in Paris, Texas was the first blatantly public, actively promoted lynching of a southern black by a large crowd of southern whites. Smith, an insane ex-slave, allegedly killed Myrtle Vance, the three-year-old daughter of a brutal Texas policeman after the policeman had assaulted him. Although the child had not been sexually molested, a local clergyman, Bishop Haygood, fueled the growing hysteria with lurid tales of how the child had been "taken by her heels and torn asunder in the mad wantonness of gorilla ferocity." The suspect was captured in Arkansas. He confessed on the train back to Paris, Texas. (more on website) I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "American Lynching." The link for the site is listed below. Since Malinda was a shirttail cousin of her second husband James Geren Wardlow, I am also related to him (but not a direct descendent). I have the original family Bible of Malinda Wardlow, including both of her families. Malinda is buried in Mount Orab Cemetery with her son John Henry Abraham. I do not believe that James Wardlow is buried there. I would guess that he is in the "Brown Cemetery" or "Wendell Fender Farm" cemetery on the Buford-Bardwell Road just over the line in Highland County, where numerous of Malinda's relatives are buried, but there is no stone. I have James' ancestors back to the original immigrant in the 1700's. I also most of his descendents to recent times, but have not kept the list up to date. Who is your husband? My line is Malinda Hirons > John Henry Abraham > Audrey Herbert Abraham > Dorothy Mae Abraham > Thomas Hutzelman. I can send you more. Write me at f?l?e?x?t?o?m?@?r?o?a?d?r?u?n?n?e?r?.?c?o?m? ......
