    2. David E. Cann
    3. This Friday June 8, my wife and I will leave to attend our son's wedding. We will return home about a week later. Since we do have a normally quiet list I am not going to have someone watch my lists while I am gone, but if the opportunity presents itself I will try look in on them myself if circumstances allow it. In any event, I will read and respond to all mail in order of receipt when I return. If there are any problems I will do my best to resolve them quickly when I get back, but if you have need to contact me please use the list admin addy below and also keep in mind I may not be able to reply for a week or so beginning June 8. I will still be here "minding the store" until that time. Thank you for your cooperation. David E. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: treelid57 Surnames: Vance Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.vance/866.969/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Horace Wilson Vance (1835-1898) was the nephew of a direct ancestor of mine, Joseph Colville Vance (1759-1809). According to a Vance Association article, Horace was the son of John Wilson Vance (1782-1857; brother to the above mentioned Joseph Colville Vance) and his third wife, Dezia Guyman or possibly Dezia Rathburn (born 2 Sept. 1813, Meigs Co., OH). John Wilson Vance had settled in Ohio with his parents in 1799, fought in the War of 1812 (private in Captain John Davis Company), and had two wives before Dezia. He moved in 1824 from Ohio to Vermillion County, Illinois and ran a saltworks near Danville, ILL; also established first tavern there; was member of IL State Legislature and friend of Abraham Lincoln. I have names and dates for other children of John Wilson Vance and Dezia (Horace's siblings). Karen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: treelid57 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.vance/1072.1205/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm descended from a Vance family who, in 1799, settled in what would soon be Greene County, OH. Joseph Colville Vance (1759-1809) had been born in Frederick County, Virginia; married Sarah Wilson in Loudoun County, VA; moved first to Washington County, PA about 1783; moved by raft down the Ohio River to Mason County, KY about 1788; and went to the Greene County, OH area from there in 1799. Joseph and Sarah had 9 children: John Wilson Vance, David Vance, Joseph Colville Vance (later OH governor), Jane Vance, Samuel Vance, William Vance, Wilson Vance, Bridget Vance, and Moses Baird Vance. One of the sons, Wilson, went in 1821 to the Findlay area and helped lay out the town of Findlay. That family stayed in Findlay, with a homesteading foray into Kansas from the late 1880s to about 1925 when they returned to Findlay. A straight line from Wilson goes through Miles Wilson Vance, Paul J. Vance, to Walter S. Vance, who was my grandfather. Are you interested in any of these people or their ancestors?
