Vance you might want to look at - the link won't copy to this message board but it's at www.matsonfamily.net/WelchAncestry/. There are names listed and you click on "Vance" for a really long and old genealogy. At the bottom is John W. Vance born a few years after 1799. All of his census records say he was born in 1799 in Ohio (no county, of course). He married Charlotte Stafford on December 31, 1929 in Shelby County Indiana. Charlotte died 12/31/1851. He died in Argos, Marshall County, Indiana in 1868. His kids included Elias, Samuel, Martha, Jane, Sarah, Mary, and George W. (Elias is my g-g-grandfather by his second wife, Artemesia). Any connection to your Vances? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He came to Ohio with his parents in about 1799. He fought in the War of 1812 and moved to Illinois in 1824. So that's probably not the one born in 1799 that you're descended from, but I bet there is a connection. They had so many kids in each family. Can you give me more about your John W. Vance's ancestors and descendants? Karen Vance Michie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Vance, born in Ohio (not sure where) in 1799. He later moved to Indiana and settled down. He named some of his children Samuel, William, and Jane. I'm wondering/hoping this might be the same John W. Vance. I'd be very interested in comparing some notes. Please reply to this thread. Thanks! -Kathleen Vance Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I was on this mailing list before, but computer problems happened. I am here again. My great grandparents were Greenville Vance and Phobe Vance. I have been trying to connect the family farther back, as much as Ireland or elsewhere, but have had no luck. So much to go through, but I am still trying. Just want to say hello to everyone. --------------------------------- Luggage? GPS? Comic books? Check out fitting gifts for grads at Yahoo! Search.

Author: ianmcconnell171 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.vance/1885.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Jean, afraid I don't have a lot of info on my Vance connections, although I have been through the Inver parish records in the Public Records Office in Belfast so will see if I have anything there that may help you. I was intrigued to see that Ellen Vance married John Welsh and that their daughter married John McConnell in Scotland, albeit his family was from Donegal. My great grandfather, John McConnell, and his wife, Annie Patterson, were married in Donegal but went to Scotland at the end of the 19th century. While there they had my great uncle John, who was born in Grangemouth in 1899. I kmow that John married Maggie Whiteside in Belfast in 1921. It's maybe a bit far fetched that he could have been married to Jane Welsh, even for a couple of years? It's probably just one big coincidence. Anyway, I'll check thorugh my PRO records for John Vance and let you know what I find. Regards, Ian Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
