How is John related to Solomon??? I am searching for a Solomon Vance - born about 1800, probably in TN. He married at age 44 in Lawrence Co, AR (about 1843) (probably a 2nd marriage). I believe him to be the father of my great great grandmother, Lusinda Vance. He died in 1844/45. I do know he had a couple of sons that died near the same time he did - but don't know names or ages. Arkansas isn't that far from Missouri - could it possibly be the same person?? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Am looking for information on Margaret VANCE and her parents/siblings, etc She married David RUSK sometime in the late 1790's and probably in Indiana. If anyone knows of any RUSK connection to the VANCEs please let me know. Thanks... John Sandy
Hi Donald, I can't answer your question with any certainty, concerning the discrepancy over who the father of Capt. Vance is as I don't have any proof. I have Capt. Roberts parents as Samuel Vance and Sarah Coleville. David Vance the son of Capt. Robert, wife was Pricilla Prank. This information came from Vance Family Assoc. newsletter Vol XIV No 1 January 1998 "Samuel and Margaret Laughlin Vance and Their Descendants" p. 8. I am sure there are many member on the Vance list with more expertise than I have concerning your question. Since you listed the 10 children, which of Capt. Robert's children do you decend from ? I decend from William Vance>Eliza Vance>Anthony Nash>Gershom Nash>Ella Nash. If you have any information on William Vance or Capt. Robert's other children I would be interested. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Don > > According to my records, Capt. I am researching two 'groups' of Vance. One group of early PA, the other of early VA. Up until today I had no reason to believe that these two Vance families were connected, though both have descendants (several generations later) that end up in East TN and intermarry with 'my' Evans clan. Vance Group #1 is the Patrick Vance family. This Patrick was the brother of John VAnce and both found in early Cumberland>Franklin CO PA. Both believed to be from Ireland. Parents unknown. This Patrick Vance marr 1st (aft 1764 when Patrick was listed as Freemen) to Sarah Taylor = my interest in him. Sarah (Taylor) Vance was the sister of 'my' ancestor Andrew Taylor. Patrick then marr 2nd (bef. 16 Apr 1787) to Elizabeth Houston. It seems more are researching the children of Patrick & Elizabeth though I am not sure exactly which children belong the each wife. Patrick Vance and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Houston removed to Knox CO, TN. He died there bet. Aug 1801 - Apr 1803 (Will written & prob) 'My' Andrew Taylor also removed from Cumberland CO PA to Knox CO, TN. Both families lived near the Knox/Jefferson CO lines. As you know, this is where 'our' Evans clan migrated to = Samuel & Ann (Colville) Evans family. This is where my Evans meet up with the Taylor family. Vance Group #2 is the Colville/Evans/Vance "clan" of early Orange>Frederick COs of Virginia. Members of this group migrated to Washington CO, VA, and many moved on to Knox/Jefferson COs (area) in East TN. As you also know, 'our' elder Samuel & Ann (Colville) Evans had children and descendants who marr into the VA Vance family, and it seems that there are other connections further back (between all of these families). It should also be noted here that it is most probable that our elder Samuel Evans (h/o Ann Colville) was the son of William and Dorothy Evans. Side NOTE: Many list this Dorothy as a Moore, but there is no reason to believe that rumor. I know where this rumor started.... there is no basis. However, the Moore surname does figure into 'our' Evans puzzle further back in early PA! BUT, back to the Evans Virginia family... it is also most probable that William & Dorothy Evans of Frederick CO VA had a son Robert. This would be Robert Evans who marr to Mary Hoge. If you take a look at the early Orange>Frederick CO VA records you will see that the Hoge/Hogue surname is of great interest to all us in our research. Also adding that we now know that a descendant of 'our' elder Samuel Evans (h/o Ann Colville) is a 37 DNA marker match to a descendant of Robert Evans and Mary Hoge. I am not a Vance researcher, but suspect that they do hold some clues to our Colville and Evans puzzle. They have to! This has been running around in my head for the last year or so. So today, after your response to my Colville post, I decided to take a look at the Vance DNA Project. It had been awhile since I had. It seems, from what is now posted to their results page, that the Patrick Vance Grp (Grp #1 above) is connected to the Colville/Evans/Vance (Grp #2 above). It seems that there are DNA participants from each of these families participating in their project. (These participants are listed in group #1 on the DNA Vance Results page) You can imagine my delight when I saw this. I do not know who these Vance DNA participants are, but would love for them to contact us. I am also wondering how (exactly) the early Patrick & John Vance of Cumberland>Franklin CO PA connect to the Samuel Vance & Sarah Colville family of early VA!? A Joseph Colville VANCE became governor of OH in 1836. I am tracing WILSON's in Hancock Co. and I'm noticing many VANCE's along the way. They may have traveled from VA, PA, KY, OH together.
