    1. [VANCE-L] Vance, Western North Carolina
    2. Hi, I'm newly subscribed to the list so thought I'd introduce myself and include my Vance line. I don't have much yet, but I do know they were in Western North Carolina in the mid to late 1800s. Straley Jason Hughes was my ggrandfather; his mother Eula Vance b. 1870 was my gggrandmother and the first Vance in my line. I've just begun researching this line and I know I need to get back to the census for info on this family, but wanted to go ahead and say hello anyway. I'll happily share any info I have and will collaborate with anyone else researching the Vances of Western North Carolina. 1. [VANCE-L] Benjamin VANCE (Schuyler Co, Illinois)
    2. Sherry Morell Shelts
    3. Benjamin Franklin VANCE was born ca 1827 in Tenn. He married Catherine TANKSLEY in Jan 1850, in Carthage (Hancock) Illinois. Catherine was born in Jackson Co, Tenn. They were married by Solomon PENDARVIS, bought land in Birmingham Twp (Schuyler) Ill from a ROBERTS family. Both of these family's are from the Smith Co area of Tenn, and seem to "somehow" connect to Benjamin's VANCE family back in Tenn. Any suggestion or help will be greatly appreciated! 1. [VANCE-L] Thomas VANCE (Smith Co, Tenn)
    2. Sherry Morell Shelts
    3. Thomas VANCE of Smith Co, Tenn I am one of several researchers, trying to find "anything" that will verify the existence of Thomas VANCE in the Smith Co, Tenn area, from about 1800, until his death in 1830. We know he had a large family of children, need to verify their names, and the names of his wives. Looking for a plat map ca 1820, showing the owners of property in the Snow Creek - Turkey Creek - Cumberland River area of Smith Co, Tenn. Many more "little pieces" to this puzzle, need help putting them together! Sherry Morell Shelts [email protected]

    2. Sonya, I just wanted to say that I joined the VFA in July of this year, and only wish I had known about it sooner. It is well worth the money if you are really interested in the Vance heritage as well as the heritage of many other surnames. Tim Vance [email protected]
