    1. [VANCE-L] Re: VANCE-D Digest V99 #24
    2. I am a Vance by birth and have researched a lot of Vances. However, I do not believe we are in the same line, I would suggest that you check the Vances of Hatfield and McCoy fued fame. Some of them were possibly from Russell. I really tried to make myself connected to that John Vance because it sounded like what I would expect some of my ancestors to be, but it didn't work out that way. Also check Logan County, Wv. 3. I am looking for any descendants of John & Nancy BLAIR Vance. In the Buchanan Co. VA marriages they were married on 6 -11- 1861. John is listed as 18 years old born in Wise Co. VA. and the son of David & Elizabeth Vance. Nancy is the dau. of Jacob III and Jane McClanahan BLAIR. She is also 18 years old and was born in Russell Co. VA They are listed in the 1880 Census and John is listed as being 38 and Nancy being 36 (ages off) and their children are John 16, Andrew 14, George W. 11, Alexander 8 and David 6. They live next to BLAIR kin in the part of buchanan Co. that became Dickenson Co. Does anyone have these lineages????? Any help greatly appreciated! John Blair/The Jacob Blair Project

    3. Some very nice people on the TN mailing list gave me some pointers on using GenConnect today. I was worried because I noticed that some of the queries were missing for the GenConnect Query page. They have only been archived and are still out there. You can click on "Search/Personalize Your Display" and tell it how many of the county messages you'd like to see. BUT I learned something else really neat you can do with GenConnect. Go to the GenConnect query board. At the top in very small print it says "Global Search". Click on this. You can enter a surname.........be sure in the place for country that you put "United States". It may return a message that tells you that there are too many and then asks you to narrow down your search. It then gives you a choice of what state you want for the next search or will even search Family Associations, etc. When the search returns it is in alphabetical order according to counties in that state. This is great! I've already found several new "cousins" today plus my husband's greatgrandfather's two long lost brothers who came to this country from Germany with him ca 1875! Be careful.......it's VERY addictive! Vicki

    1. [VANCE-L] William Vance, from Penn to Illinois in 1854
    2. Sherry Morell Shelts
    3. Hello Vance researchers, I have just received a "seemingly well documented" history concerning a William Vance, grandson of William Vance and his first wife Rachel PATTERSON, and son of Joseph and Jane (COOK) Vance. All of his siblings are buried at the Cross Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, most died young. Mentioned, is a letter from Joseph Vance, to his grandson Joseph at the age of 14. I haven't been able to study this, as I just received it, but it states that this line was proven the author of the book concerning Cross Creek Church, A.D. White, and that he later came to visit them in Illinois. This is not my line, but if it is yours, I will share more with you. Sherry Morell Shelts [email protected]

    1. [VANCE-L] Ramsey Vance, Tenn to Texas
    2. Sherry Morell Shelts
    3. Ramsey Vance was born ca 1800 in Tenn, and is mentioned in some Smith Co, Tenn deeds ca 1833. He, and his wife Letsey are in Smith Co in the 1850 Census. I have just found them in the Hopkins Co, Texas census in 1860, with 4 daughters and a son John, but by the 1870 Hopkins Co, Texas census, it only shows Ramsey's wife Letsey and their son John. It "appears" that Ramsey is the son of a John Vance, unless their was an older son I have not yet found. I am trying to track this John Vance line back, to see who he connects to ( ? Thomas / Samuel?), if you have any ideas, please contact me! I sent the Smith Co deeds to a researcher of this John, so she could try to track this land back, but it has been quite some time, and I have not heard from her. 1. [VANCE-L] Catherine Vance Cupp of Tennessee
    2. Hi folks: I am seeking information about the lineage of Catherine Vance of Claiborne County, Tennessee. She was the second wife of Ransom Cupp, son Jacob Cupp and Sibby Breeding. Catherine was an important lady due in part because she was the mother of seven kids and they, like all good Cupps, were fruitful. Recapping the basics of her life I know that she was born Nov. 13, 1828 in Claiborne County, Tenn., married Ransom Cupp on March 7, 1853 in Tazewell, Tenn., and died March 7, 1892 in Claiborne County, Tenn. She is buried next to her husband on Cupp's Ridge, Tazewell, Tenn. What I am hoping is that someone is in the know about Catherine's parents. Her mother (I don't know the name) was a Cherokee Indian. Her father may have been John Vance, a farmer, age 46 in the 1850 Tennessee Census records. He was born in Tennessee. However, it is also possible that her father was Unity Vance, age 50 at the time of the 1850 Tennessee Census. This Vance was born in North Carolina. He had two children listed, Ellian, 24, a farmer and a daughter, Catherine, 21. This age matches the Catherine Vance who married Ransom. (I haven't been able to confirm which father is correct. Catherine had four sisters: Rachel Vance, Miney Vance, Oakes Sington and Nancy Stone. If anyone knows something about Catherine and her background, I would love to hear from you. Cheers, Jo Ann Garlington

    3. Could someone sort this out. I haven't been able to. I have found several Nancy VANCEs as having been listed as marrying E. Hatfield. Was the Nancy Abner and Susannah VANCE's daughter? I have also seen it listed that the Nancy was James H. and Barbara VANCE's daughter. Neither of the dates that I have match up with the dates for the other Nancy VANCE that I have listed. Can anyone set me straight? Thanks in advance, Meg

    2. the rose family
    3. I am searching for any information regarding a Lloyd VANCE who married (or lived with) my mother about 1939-1940 in NE. She later left him and married my father. We are a family of dark haired, dark eyed individuals, except for my older brother who is blond with blue eyes. In the interest of possibly establishing a more realistic family lineage for himself, my brother has asked me to try to find any living relatives of Lloyd to see if there are any family similarities, etc.. He would like one day to know who he looks like. My parents are deceased now, but my mother has previously told me that Lloyd VANCE had only one arm. (I don't know why, but I wish I had asked more questions when I was younger.) And my mother also said Lloyd VANCE travelled by riding empty railroad cars to other cities. Does anyone know this man? Please contact me with ANY help, no matter how small. Thank you, Sarah [email protected]
