Hi, I was just wondering if this was if this was written by one of your Darke County Vances. <<At the Greenville public library there is a book done by Michael Vance of Arcanum, Ohio in 1993. It is the index only of the Civil War soldiers and/or their widows still living in Darke Co. in 1890. It lists the the person's name and the town and/or township in Darke Co. where the person was living in 1890.>> (From the Darke County, Ohio List) Do you know if your Vance line came to Ohio from Frederick/Jefferson County, Virginia. My 4th g grandfather, Walter W. French, came to Darke County from that area. His grandmother was Hester Vance and his Great Grandfather was James Vance, both from Frederick/Jefferson County VA area. Jay French

On the 1880 Buchanan County, VA Census is a family that seems to disappear and what makes the search harder is of course the lack of an 1890 census. I have looked in several surrounding counties in 1900 but can't find these Vances! Nancy Vance was the daughter of Jacob III and Jane McClanahan BLAIR, and the Blair's pretty much stayed in the area of Buchanan Co. that later became Dickenson Co. 1880 CENSUS John Vance 38 b.Wise Co. son of David & Elizabeth Rose VANCE Nancy Vance 36 b. Russell Co. dau. of Jacob & Jane McClanahan Blair Married 1861 Buchanan Co. VA. John 16 Andrew 14 George W 11 Alexander 8 David 6 Does anyone connect? Seem to have hit a brick wall. I have already researched the 1900 Census for most of these Counties and they are not there....Where did they go? Thanks for any help John Blair

Good idea, Sonya. My Vance info is very shaky, so please folks only look for common lines and don't take these relationships and dates as fact. This is a line I haven't spent a lot of time on yet and I know I have errors. Still I thought I would post - if anyone is researching these lines I would like to collaborate. I know little about my Vances at this point... Franklin Remington Vance (b. 7-4-1856) married Ruth Loring in Logan County Ohio. The only child I know of now is Harriet Vance. There were/are lots of Vances in that area, and I'm sure I'm related somehow, I just haven't found anything yet. Mike Oswald
So far I haven't seen any messages on this site about the name Vause. It is said to be another spelling of Vance. Does anyone have any information on the Vause family in Virginia? Nellie Larsen

I am researching John Vance, Revolutionary War solider who died in 1826 in Pendleton County, WV, and was married in October 1773 to Nancy ?. I have searched for 40 years for her last name (It is not Bradley as some think.) On her pension application she said she was married in either PA or VA she could not remember which. I think that is because it was in that section known as West Augusta and even government officials were confused about which state owned certain territories during that time. Children are possibly: John Jr., Robert, Mary who married Adam Harper, Elizabeth, Solomon, Hiram. Hiram, Reuben, Sylvester, Blake, is my line. Many of these Vances left West Virginia (VA) and went to Missouri and Illinois.
I am looking, most desperately, for an Ephraim Lynn VANCE b. Oct 9, 1850 m. Feb. 24, 1876 in Chatsworth, Livingston Co., IL, to Mary Matilda TURNBULL b. Apr. 21, 1856 in IL. Tami
