    3. Shoshone Indian Agent Captain John Timothy Van Orsdale, was the acting Indian Agent at Fort Hall, Idaho, on July 20, 1892, when he wrote this letter to his superiors. The Indians were within thier treaty rights. I believe there is no wanton slaughter of game by the Shoshones at jackson Hole, Wyoming, as has been reported. While it is a notorious fact that hundreds of game are killed by white man for nothing more than heads and horns, Indians can hardly be expected to submit quietly to the killing of thier own people. Failure of government action is liable to result in serious loss of life. Cpt. J. T. Van Orsdale J. T. Van Orsdale, was our families first Graduate from the West point Military Academy. Born in New York he was admitted to the Academy in 1868 and graduated in 1872. He spent 42 years in military service.
