I think the Dutch were just very nomadic. I know I have 2 branches of my family that are dutch and they are all over the place. Even today. My family is everywhere. I can take trips from Pennsylvania to Florida and stay at relatives houses along the way. Does not make it easy tracking them. Funny thing about it, I tracked another dutch branch, (Bertholf/Bartholf) and found I had been living next to a cousin (10 generations back) for over 10 years.
