    3. I have received some very great help from several of you on the Van list. Thanks so very much! Others have tried to help, and I greatly appreciate those efforts as well. Have located a 3rd Van cousin in California through this help. Through this effort and my own research (and DAR records), I have pieced together my line which follows. My line comes down from Jan, through his son Christophel, then John (1722-1798), James Mills (1761-1824), James Haines (?-d. 1828 Illinois), William Clark (b. abt 1814 Maryland - d. 1867 Illinois), Charles Ruland (b. abt 1840 Illinois - d. 1917 California), and my grandmother, Anna Scott VAN OSDEL Heyland (b. 1870 Illinois - d. 1950 Illinois). I have very good and detailed information on the Illinois Van Osdel family relating to this line, including John Mills Van Osdel (1811-1891). He was Chicago's first architect. Have researched through the Newberry Library and the Chicago Historical Society library and archives. I have burial records and a plat map for all the Van Osdel's and their immediate family buried in the family plot in Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago (over 30 Van's and their relatives). I am writing a book about John Mills Van Osdel (both his personal and professional life), as I am also an architect. Also writing a family history on my Van Osdel line and am looking for others who have information regarding this line. Any info or data would be greatly appreciated on any of the family related to this line. Will be happy to share any of my information with those of you who are interested! Bud Hopkins, Dallas, TX
