I'll try again and hope someone recognizes a relative. John Vanasdal/Vanausdal, b 1823, PA (I suspect it could have been VA in that timeline) m. Deborah Jordan sometime before 1860 census may have been married to a Sarah Wise ca 1850 Children: Corridine b. ca 1851 (1850 census gave given name as Cozine, 1870 as Consodine, but he is burried as Corridine) Caroline b. ca 1854, Licking Co., OH (away from home by 1870, no more info) Lucinda b. ca 1855, Licking Co., OH (no other info) John Isaac b. Jan. 1859 (did not appear in census till 1870) Emily b. 1861, Licking Co., OH My big brick wall for years has been the parents of John Vanasdal, the elder. John and his wife Deborah were living in Vigo Co., IN in 1900. In 1901 their son John Isaac was killed in a fall from a utility pole in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., and his parents and two sisters are listed as survivors, but not their names, thus no possible married names for the sisters. I have not been able to locate any death information on John and Deborah, but feel they probably died sometime between 1901 and 1915 (if they lived to very old ages). Vigo Co. does not have death info. There are two other mysteries regarding this family. On the 1900 census Deborah Jordan Vanasdal seems to have told the census taker that she had given birth to four children (5 are listed above) and that none were living in 1900. John Isaac listed a Sarah Wise as his mother on his marriage application, but a Sarah Wise was listed as his mother on his death certificate and his burial record. I think I may have reasoned out the number of children born by Deborah as being four births, three had died before 1870, Emily survived, but was dead by 1900. I feel there is a possibility that Sarah Wise was the first wife and bore the first 4 children sired by John, but she may have died giving birth to John Isaac in 1859...which does not explain why he was not listed in the 1860 census with the rest of the family. In truth, I can't prove any of my theory. There was a baby John in a Water Cure hospital in Licking Co., in 1860, but no surname, and no names of the patient list of the hospital is now extant. This could be my John, maybe? In the Licking Co. censuses there is a William Vanasdal living in the same area as John, but living with whom I think could be a daughter, Mary (Mrs. Hixon) Blades, and her children. I have found her marriage date to Blades, but he disappeared from the household by 1880. My thought is that William could be a brother to John. I have not found any record of marriage for the three daughters of John, nor any death records that would match any of the info I have regarding Vans. Corridine died in Seneca Co., OH in 1889, in a R.R. accident. He was married to Anne Humphrey, daughter of Samuel. Two surviving sons, Samuel and Ira. I have info on them and contact with descendants.. One of the girls was dead before Jan. 1901, according to the obit of John Isaac Vanasdal. Suspect that was Emily. John Isaac Vanasdal, my great grandfather, married Adda Josephine Orr, and had two boys, Charles Merleton and Walter (my grandfather). Now you all know about as much about my maiden name family as I do. I hope someone can help me find the parents, sibs, or something more about John Vanasdal, or more info on his daughters that might lead to more info on their parents. Barb, in MS
