Between the similarity of the pronunciation, especially to an English speaking ear, and the similarity in the script, no wonder Gulick/Hulick is so easily confused. I had similar problem, the will of my Auke Janse van Nuys is found in the NY Historical Society's Abstract of Wills, Vol. I, under Anke Jans Vany Huys ---- transcribing errors abound throught that will. Lucky for us that the wife and children all match up!
