    1. [VanArsdale-L] [Fwd: Announcing the GC-Gateway] From the List Administrator
    2. Brian & TerriRene
    3. Hello, There are currently 92 e-mail addresses receiving the <VanArsdale-l@rootsweb.com> Genealogy Mailing List, with another 18 receiving the digest-mode of this list. As of today (05 April 2000) all messages posted to the Van Arsdale GenConnect Boards will automatically be posted to the mailing list. This may generate some "junk mail", i.e.: 'I live on Mars and will do look-ups for a nominal fee'. There are other forms of Junk Mail, such as "fishing expeditions", i.e.: 'looking for all Van Arsdales ever born in any place at any time' .... But I think that the value of receiving the information contained in most postings will far out-weigh the down side of needing to use the delete button more often. If you are on this list & are currently subscribed to the GenConnect Boards, you will receive duplicates of the postings ... and may want to avoid this by unsubscribing from the GenConnect Board <grin>. If you are new to this list, please be aware that there are several GenConnect Boards available and can be accessed from <http://www.macatawa.org/~brianter/vanarsdaledocuments.htm>. If you have a Web Page with "Van" data and would like to link to the "document" page, we will link to your page as well. Here is how the GC-Gateway works: -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Announcing the GC-Gateway You asked for it -- here it is! GenConnect boards can now be "gatewayed" to mailing lists. When a board is gatewayed to a mailing list, every message posted to the GenConnect board will be forwarded to the corresponding mailing list. The message sent to the list will contain the URL of the specific post to allow the list subscribers to respond directly to the message. In this manner, gatewaying will enable more effective communication between the mailing lists and the GenConnect boards. -------- On a personal note: I apologize for being an absent administrator. Between my surgery in November (minor complications, all is now healed) ... some family crisis (they say what don't kill you just makes you stronger?) ... returning to work ... a major computer crash in which all of my data was corrupted ... and just trying to be a mother, wife, person ... I'm afraid I haven't updated the Web Page or done anything else with genealogy for several months. I hope to be able to update pages, etc. in May (after Tax Season & before Tulip Time). Sincerely, Terri Rene DaVar-Howard <http://www.macatawa.org/~brianter/index.html>
