    3. Hi to all (especially to Charles!)! I have an Edward Van Orsdale, who was the informant on my husband's gg grandfather - Shedrick Benjamin Van Orsdale. Some searching led me to the Social Security Death Index. I found an Edward and thought I needed to know how Edward was related to Shedrick (AKA: Benjamin or "SB"). We already had all his children listed. We even found extended family and "found" siblings. Now I had this "Edward." I requested the Social Security Application, received the copy of the form and discovered Edward was indeed another son - from another wife: Amanda J. Orris. Edward was born Oct 19, 1892 in Johnstown, Cambria, PA. Shedrick lived in WV with his second wife, Roseanna, and children then moved to Stark Co., Ohio. Further research on Orris led me to an obituary post on an Amanda Hummel. It goes like this: ********* "GEISTOWN WOMAN CALLED BY DEATH Mrs. Samuel Hummel, 59, Dies at Windber; Funeral at Church Friday Special to The Tribune WINDBER, Aug. 21. - Mrs. Amanda HUMMEL, aged 59 years, widow of Samuel HUMMELL [sic], of Geistown, died about 4 o'clock this morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Amos NOON, of Fourth street. Death was attributed to a complication of diseases. The deceased is survived by these children: Mrs. Lillian LISK, of Brady's Lake, O.; Mrs. Eva BLIZER, of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Annabelle DUNKHY, of Kokomo, Ind.; Percy HUMMEL, of Texas; and Edward HUMMEL, of Steubenville, O. She also leaves these brothers and sisters: George ORRIS, of Johnstown; Joseph ORRIS, of Rummel; Mrs. U. G. GRAMLING and Mrs. Amos NOON, both of Windber, and Mrs.Sarah BENNETT, of Johnstown. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the local United Brethren Church, conducted by the Rev. J. C. Rupp, pastor. Burial will be in the Dunmire Cemetery, near Elton. Undertaker Eben H. Watts will have charge of the funeral. Johnstown Tribune August 21, 1929 Page 13" ************ ALSO FOUND: ************ "Funeral of Mrs. Hummel. WINDBER, Aug. 22. - Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda HUMMEL, aged 59 years, formerly of Geistown, who died yesterday morning at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Amos NOON, of Fourth street, will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the local United Brethren Church. The Rev. J. C. Rupp, pastor, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Dunmire Cemetery, near Elton, in charge of Undertaker Eben H. Watts. Mrs. HUMMEL was married twice. She leaves five children of the first union: Mrs. Lillian LISK, of Brady's Lake, O.; Mrs. Eva BLIZER, of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Annabelle DUNKHY, of Kokomo, Ind.; Percy VANOSDALE, of Texas, and Edward VANOSDALE, of Steubenville, O. She also leaves several brothers and sisters. Johnstown Tribune August 22, 1929 Page 17" found: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/CambriaObits/3136 ******* Obviously the first obit listed the last two children with the incorrect last name. Now my search is for the other children listed. I found a Percy VANOSDALE, however, I'm not sure of the match. Was Percy male or female? Edward moved to Ohio and lived close to his father. Where were the other children? Did they stay in there home of record at the time of their mother's passing or did they move away? If these names have meaning please email me! If not - Happy Hunting to all! Laura Gribben
