Posted on: VanArsdale Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/VanArsdale/55 Surname: Vanardal, Dorland, Darland, Burnett, Peterson ------------------------- There is a will in York Co PA for James/John Vanarsdal of Berwick Twp, York Co PA made 9 April 1771, proved 22 June 1772, recorded in York Co Will Book C, pg 105, Witnessed by Peter Peterson and George Burnette. Wife: Neeltje (Eleanor) Children living at the time of the will: David, Isaac, Jeanette, Marntie, Johanna. EX: Eleanor, Henry Banta, and "my cousin Cornelious Vanarsdale) In Berwick Co Taxes 1. 1772- Eleanor, widow Hannah, widow (could be JOhanna) 2. Abraham VAnansdal then appears from 1775-1787. 3. In 1781 there is a blurred sentence after Abraham's name " to land" 4. In 1784 it reads Abraham Vanarsdal & "Orphans Lan" which leads me to believe that he was administering the land for the children of John, if the blurred area in 1781 is the same, if not then it was probably for the land belonging to Simon Van arsdale whom Eleanor married next. Simon died in 1783 and he and Eleanor had three children the youngest being born the same year he died. In the rest of the taxes for Berwick 1. 1786 - Abraham David Single Man 2. 1787 - Abraham, John, David - singleman 3. 1788 - Abraham is no long listed but we find that John now has the 198 acres and is listed as a Singleman Eleanor is listed as Poor and a Widow David is a single man and a blacksmith Mary (Marntie) is poor with 1 cow Also living nearby in Berwick is close neighbor Garret Dorland and living with him from 1787-1789 is his nephew Lambert Dorland listed as a single or widowed man. He is the son of Johannes and Catharine Van Liew Dorland and has returned to York Co from Kentucky. I think that perhaps Marntie or Mary is Martha, Lamberts wife to be, and probably his second wife as Lambert's son states that he was born in Kentucky in 1786. I need to know more about this family. 1. Who is Abraham and what is his relationship to John VAn Arsdale and wife Eleanor 2. Who did their children marry? Help would be appreciated. Thanks Judy
