I was working in South Dakota state records tonight, and came across these men serving in the 1st Dakota Cavalry in the Civil War: Samuel Vanosdale, Co. B Wm. Vanosdale, Co. B Samuel Vanosdel, Co. B, Pvt. Wm. Vanosdel, Co. B, Pvt. Wm. Vansdale, Co. B. Some names may be duplicates of the same person, but these were what was listed. Hope they are useful to someone.
