    3. Hi, Thought I'd do some searching on the net and see what I'd come up with .... I used the names from the query below to enhance my playtime (Not MY family! Can't find ANYTHING about them!) ... 3. Bryce- Yes, I'm still here too! I've been VERY silent as I've not been doing much ancestral research of late. Too busy with doing the work of the living- but the desire to search my roots remains strong and I keep my files at hand and my subscription to the list in the hope that some new snippet of information will come across the net. Seeing the post from a 'Van Osdol' got me digging records out, and I find that the name change in my line occurred with Theodorus Williamson Van Osdol, b. 1781 in Conewago, son of Simon Van Arsdale, b. 11 Nov. 1750. BTW- nice to be in touch again! Jerry Carden BStevens wrote: > > ...And my Granny spelled it Vanosdol, while many of her cousins spelled it > Van Osdol, and a few went back and forth. 3. And my recently deceased Thomas Vanosdol B. spell the Van name that way even though his gr-grandfather spelled his surname.....VanArsdale. I like the explanation one of the Van gave........said the spelling was changed so the name could be pronounced. I had never thought about that reason.......but have often wondered how and why so many variations arose over time. And I, like other Vans or descendants of Vans, am attempting to put my complete family tree on the PC so that I won't keep having to refer to notes, censuses, rag-tag pieces of paper with jotting on the them. I wonder if our descendants will be as proud of all of us as I am proud to have some Van blood in me. What a wonderful group of God-fearing, stout of heart, determined, and yes, even illustrious notable achievers they were and still are. I am proud to be a part of this family. And thanks for a leader like Charles to help carry on the research and allow us all to be the lucky recipients of the research of those who preceded this generation and those who are still diligently searching and sharing. However you spell your Van.....no matter........we're all from the same great family! 3. I'm still here, and I still haven't found anyone on the list who has the Van spelling of my maiden name, which is Vanasdal. I've seen the name spelled that way in old censuses, and I know of one living line from my ggggf, but nobody seems to claim that spelling besides us these days. If someone could come up with a marriage or death for the sisters of my gggf, John Isaac Vanasdal, it would be a huge help, I think. They were Caroline, b 1853, Licking Co., OH, Lucinda, b. 1855 Licking Co., OH., and Emily, b 1861 Licking Co., OH. Two were living in 1901, but I don't know which two, or if any of them every married. Since I can't find their parents' death place and date (John and Deborah Jordan Vanasdal), maybe there would be helpful info on the daughter's records, but I can't find them past 1880, when only Emily was still at home. They could have married or died in OH, IN, or IL, because their parents were in those states, but that doesn't mean the girls stayed in those states. Anybody have those girls married to someone in their lines? 1. [VanArsdale-L] Good to hear from the Vans.
    2. Hope you are all able to find at least one answer this year to these relationships. In my research here in Dutchess Co. NY I find those born near the Amer.Revolution 1775,6,7 do not have available records. I wonder if their baptisms etc were put off for safety reasons, or perhaps the ministers moved a lot and took records with them. Just a thought. Donna.... It looks like your family photo made The Vanguard. Very nice. Thanks for all the replies. Will be on the lookout for any meaningful info for all of you. Kay Mackey

    1. Re: [VanArsdale-L] Where is everyone?
    2. I'm still here, too. Just not much to write about either. I've been concentrating on my mother's line, sort of letting the Van's rest. My main interest in the Van's right now is an indirect one. I've posted this before and so has Linda Wright, but perhaps there is someone new looking in. I would do the jig at your wedding if you can help me find the parents of Cornelius C. VanArsdall who married Cynthia (Seicha) VanDivier (spelling may vary) Cornelius b. February 15, 1766 d. October 14, 1866 Cynthia b. January 1, 1775 d. October 3, 1868 They were married October 21, 1804 in Mercer County, Kentucky. According to Linda's research, this is probably the second marriage for Cornelius. (First wife being Mary Vanderipe) Cornelius and Cynthia are buried at the Old Mud Meeting House. 3. Misc. Last year chasing whales off Cape Cod I came across a plaque, at the Provincetown MA airport, which read "John C. VanArsdale founder of Provincetown - Boston Airline Dec 4 1919 - Feb 7 1997" This airport was purportedly used for the tarmac scenes for the TV show "Wings". There is also here in NYC the "Harry VanArsdale Jr. Highway" On the internet search (http://www.harryvanarsdalejr.org/) of there is a memorial of Harry VanArsdale Jr. 1905-1986 elected the first president of the merged New York City Central Labor Council AFL-CIO in 1957 and quote: "His passion and concern for the well being and dignity of others has substantially improved the lives of working men and women." Also a picture of Harry and Jack Kennedy (http://www.harryvanarsdalejr.org/HVABIO.html) Michael Wolfe
