    3. Some notes I have on Christian Van Doren/Doran - he was b. April 1767 in Neshanic NJ; died 1840/50, buried Lanier twp., Preble Co OH. About 1790 he moved to Shepherdstown W VA. S/o Jacob Van Doorn; g-grandson of Pieter Van Doorn of Gravesend Holland who came to NY 1659, settled in Brooklyn. Lindsay M. Brien, p. 75, part II, Early Settlers & Revolutionary Soldier of Preble Co OH, published 1966, says John Vanausdal, sons Cornelius and Peter, s-i-l Christian Van Doren, came to Preble Co 1806. Cornelius b. 2 Oct 1783, Berkeley Co VA/WVA, m. 24 July 1817 Martha Bilba/Bilbe. Sasha Stanley Greene Co OH

    3. Posted on: VanArsdale Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/VanArsdale?read=45 Surname: Vanasdal, Vanausdal, Jordan, Wise, Humphreys ------------------------- John Vanasdal/Vanausdal was born in PA in 1823 (could have been WV). He was in Licking Co., OH before the 1850 census and was married to Deborah Jordan, of Guernsey Co., OH by either 1850 or 1860. The 1850 census is unreadable regarding his wife's name and two different mothers were listed on his son John Isaac's death and marriage certificates; Sarah Wise and Deborah Jordan. Also listed in the 1850 census, apparently in the same household as John and his wife, were an elderly woman named Rebecca, and a young man named Mikel. Second son John Isaac was born in 1859, but not listed in the 1860 census with his father John, and Deborah. Other children of John, the elder, were listed as Cozine (later died with the name Corridine), Caroline, Lucinda were listed in the 1860 census. In the 1870 census John Isaac was listed, age 11, as well as a new daughter, Emily. John and Deborah Jordan Vanasdal were both still living in 1901, when their son John Isaac was killed, and two of the daughters were still living. By that time John and Deborah were living in Vigo Co., IN, but I know nothing at all about the daughters, other than their names, and I don't know where or when John and Deborah died. That info is absolutely necessary for me to establish the parents of John Vanasdal, born 1823. I would also like to learn if any of the daughters married. I have the information on the oldest son, Corridine, and his descendants, but none on the daughters. I would GREATLY appreciate any info on any of these people. It is possible that John Isaac was the son of another John Vanasdal/Vanausdal and was taken to raise by John and Deborah. Does anyone have a child named John from a Van family?

    3. If I remember correctly, the last part of this biography is no longer true. I combed Preble County in the 1960s and gathered most of the records - sometime later, I heard that the stones had been removed and stored at someone's house for a time - I haven't been able to locate anyone, including family members I've questioned, who knows where that might have been or exactly what happened to the remaining stones. When a young man he moved to Virginia, and there married Phebe VAN AUSDAL. He resided in that State several years, during which time three children were born to him. In 1805 or 1806 he moved to Ohio with his father-in-law, John VAN AUSDAL, and settled in Lanier township, Preble county, where he lived the rest of his lfe. Soon after his death the land passed out of the possession of his family. He was one of the founders of the Presbyterian church in Eaton. His wife survived him several years, and died at the residence of her daughters, in Indiana. But three of his children are now livingÑÑtwo in Minnesota, and one in Dakotah territory. His descendants in this county now number thirteen, all of whom are the children or grandchildren of his eldest son, John who was the only one of Christian VAN DOREN's children who passed his entire life in Preble county. John VAN DOREN was born in 1806, and was one of the first white children born in the county. In 1834 he married Frances SPACHT, a daughter of Jacob SPACHT, one of the first settlers in this county. Jacob SPACHT entered a quarter section of land adjoining Eaton on the west. His first wife was a daughter of William BRUCE, and his second a daughter of Christian VAN DOREN. He was a merchant in Eaton during part of the time that he was a resident on this county. In 1837 he sold his land to his son-in-law, John VAN DOREN, and moved to Indiana, where he died in 1864. The land he entered still belongs to his descendants, having been in their possession seventy years. John VAN DOREN's five children still survive him. Abram, the eldest, was the first grandchild of William BRUCE, the proprietor of Eaton.

    3. Hello, Jim! I have tried to send you several messages but the server seems to be acting up tonight and I'm not sure any of them got through. At any rate...I wasn't sure this was my husband's Vanarsdall family, but when you mentioned Hendricks County and Jerry Tingle all in the same message, I knew it was. John C. and Elizabeth Scott were my husband's g-g-grandparents. I have posted for years and you are the first person to ever post the same names. My husband is not a genealogist and is not too knowledgeable about his family, but I hope between the three of us we can piece this family together a bit more. I have several children that you don't list, and while I don't know much about the family back beyond Indiana, I'm sure Mark Thomas can help us in Mercer Co KY. I have quite a bit of information on the family after they came to Indiana, though. We have just returned from vacation are are a bit unorganized at the moment, but I will try to collect my wits and get back to you. What a great pleasure it is to finally meet someone of this line! 3. Jim: I am not sure if this is the right family, but they seem to fit the profile of your query. The John Vanarsdall and Elizabeth (?) in the following census record do not appear to have been married in Mercer Co., KY. Source: "1850 Federal Census Mercer County Kentucky," by Faye Sea Saunders, Louisville, KY, 1983, P. 26, Family No. 452: Vanarsdall, John 27 year old male, b. KY, Farmer Vanarsdall, Elizabeth 21 year old female, b. KY Vanarsdall, Elizabeth 4/12 year old female, b. KY (P. 270 of original census) The three other John Vanarsdall's in Mercer Co., KY in 1850 do not fit your profile at all. John L. D. Vanaasdoll lived in Hart Co., KY, P. 234 in 1850, but he appears to have married Lucy Banta in 1821 in Mercer Co., KY. John Vanarsdale lived in Franklin Co., KY, P. 36 in 1850. He might be your man also. This is all I could dig up from my records at home. I hope it helps.
