    2. Cindy I have a Joseph VanArsdale, son of Garret Van Arsdale and Annetie Van Harllingen. He was baptised July 17,1785 at Conowago. I believe his grandparents were Garret and Leucretian Hegeman, and Leucretians parents were Yoseph Leucretian Hegeman. Annetje's father was the Rev. Van Harlingen of the Sourlandt (Harlingen) DRC. Chuch. Other chidren were: Garret b. April 22, 1778 Neeltjei bp April 24, 1780 Lachkreeske Dec. 1, 1782 Joseph b. July 17, 1785 Armolus Van Harling b. Oct.. 14, 1787 Geertie B. April 1, 1792 If I am not mistaken this family remained and lived in the Berkely Co area of the DRC settlement and then moved onward to Preble Co Ohio. I also believee that there is a Revoltionary War Record for Garret, Deposition of William Fllloogtellen (Hoggelton) Isaac Vanarsdallen and John Benkerhof f Adams Co PA who were acquainted awith the deponet during the war of the Rev. given in 1832. (This would be for Josephs grandfather Garret. This Garret levt a will written Nov. 16, 1782 in Yrok Co and entered into probate in 1787. Hope this is your Joseph Judy

Not my line, but this is what I have collected: Jan Van Aersdale & wife Lammetje Probasco had 2 children: (1) Matilda Methylte Heletie Van Arsdalen born Abt. 1709 in New Jersey, died abt 1774. AFN #KB86-KT & PM66-P3. She married Garret Darland, son of Gerrit Dorland & Jannetje Martense Schenek. (2) John Van Arsdalen who married Magdalena Dorlandt, daughter of Gerret Janse Dorlandt & his wife Merritje. Magdalena Dorlandt was born 12 November 1714 and died (WFT Est.) 1736-1808. They had two children: Jan (John) Van Arsdalen, born 1731, & Lammetie Van Arsdalen, born 1733 ... baptized 13 May 1733 in Jamaica, Queens Co., NY ... died Bef. 1759. I do not know the names of their spouses. Ky Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/Mercer/2496 Surname: Vanarsdal, Vanderipe, Westerfield ------------------------- Linda - The will of Harman Vanderipe appears in a typescript book in the Family History Library in Salt Lake, Mercer Co., KY Wills and Estates Vol 1-2, 1786-1808 and 1808-1821, call number 976.9485, P28f, v.1-2. This will is from Will Book 6 p. 293, recorded Aug 1820. He lists his wife Catey, dau Magdalen Huff, son Cornelius Vanderipe, Dau Altie, wife of Abraham Vanarsdel, and grandson John Vanarsdel, (a.k.a. John Vanderipe). Abraham Vanarsdel and Peter Huff were executors and witnesses. Could this Abraham be a sibling to your John C. Vanarsdall? I am guessing that since Pat Durham indicates that John C. Vanarsdall married Mary Vanderipe, and then married Cynthia Vandivier, that Mary was a daughter of Harmon Vanderipe, but she was no longer living when this will was created 1 Jan 1819. And if a group sheet I obtained from Ancestral File is correct, the Mary(Polly)Westerfield who married Cornelius Vanderipe was a sister of James Cozine Westerfield, and the Mary(Polly)Westerfield who married Cornelius C. Vanarsdall was the daughter of James Cozine Westerfield. Is this correct? 1. [VanArsdale-L] JAMES/JOHN VANARSDAL WILL OF BERWICK TWP YORK CO, PA 1771

    3. Posted on: VanArsdale Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/VanArsdale/55 Surname: Vanardal, Dorland, Darland, Burnett, Peterson ------------------------- There is a will in York Co PA for James/John Vanarsdal of Berwick Twp, York Co PA made 9 April 1771, proved 22 June 1772, recorded in York Co Will Book C, pg 105, Witnessed by Peter Peterson and George Burnette. Wife: Neeltje (Eleanor) Children living at the time of the will: David, Isaac, Jeanette, Marntie, Johanna. EX: Eleanor, Henry Banta, and "my cousin Cornelious Vanarsdale) In Berwick Co Taxes 1. 1772- Eleanor, widow Hannah, widow (could be JOhanna) 2. Abraham VAnansdal then appears from 1775-1787. 3. In 1781 there is a blurred sentence after Abraham's name " to land" 4. In 1784 it reads Abraham Vanarsdal & "Orphans Lan" which leads me to believe that he was administering the land for the children of John, if the blurred area in 1781 is the same, if not then it was probably for the land belonging to Simon Van arsdale whom Eleanor married next. Simon died in 1783 and he and Eleanor had three children the youngest being born the same year he died. In the rest of the taxes for Berwick 1. 1786 - Abraham David Single Man 2. 1787 - Abraham, John, David - singleman 3. 1788 - Abraham is no long listed but we find that John now has the 198 acres and is listed as a Singleman Eleanor is listed as Poor and a Widow David is a single man and a blacksmith Mary (Marntie) is poor with 1 cow Also living nearby in Berwick is close neighbor Garret Dorland and living with him from 1787-1789 is his nephew Lambert Dorland listed as a single or widowed man. He is the son of Johannes and Catharine Van Liew Dorland and has returned to York Co from Kentucky. I think that perhaps Marntie or Mary is Martha, Lamberts wife to be, and probably his second wife as Lambert's son states that he was born in Kentucky in 1786. I need to know more about this family. 1. Who is Abraham and what is his relationship to John VAn Arsdale and wife Eleanor 2. Who did their children marry? Help would be appreciated. Thanks Judy

John Van Arsdale and wife Eleanor Peterson, lived in Berwick Twp, York Co PA. John died and left a will (actually there are evidently two of them filed) one under the name of James and the other John. Made 9 April 1771, proved 22 June 1772. recorded in York Co Will Book C pg 105. His wife is Nelltje, CH: David, Isaac, Jeanette, Marntie, Johanna. Ex: were Eleanor, Henry Banta and "my cousin Cornelious". It was witnessed by Peter Peterson and George Burnette. Eleanor Finnosdol is listed as a widow as is Hannah Finnosdol (don't know who she is either) on the tax lists of 1772 for Berwick Twp. In 1781 Abraham is shown as Abraham Vanarsdal and "? to land", then in 1784 he is listed as Abraham Van Arsdale and under his name also "Orphans Land". So evidently he was administering this for John's family. Eleanor or Nelltje then married Simon Van Arsdale and had three children, the last of whom she baptised alone at Conowago in 1783. Simon died by 1783 and Letters of Admnistration were granted to Eleanor Vanarsdale, widow of Simon, late of Berwick Oct 21, 1783. Letters of Administration were also granted to Abraham on that same date for Simon Vanarsdall, late of York Co. Vol F, pp 172 &172 York Co PA Wills. Abraham continues alone on the Tax lists for 1784, then with David who is listed also as a Single Man; 1787 Abraham, John and David as a single man; in 1788 there is no Abraham, however John (the son) is shown as having 198 acres (so he came of age to inherit his fathers land evidently even though David is the oldest son per the will). John is listed as a Single man, Eleanor a widow listed as "poor", David still single and a black smith and Mary (daughter) "poor and one cow". So I assume that at this point Abraham had done his duty and moved most likely to Kentucky. 1. Who was Abraham and what was his relationship to this family? 2. Is anyone descended from the family of John and Eleanor who can tell me who their living children listed in the will above married and lived? 3. I am especially interested in Mary or Marntie listed as "poor" because I suspect she might be the missing Martha who married Lambert Darland about 1788 -90 when he returned from Mercer Co Ky and is found on the York Co tax lists living with his Uncle Garret as a single man or widower.
