    3. I have further information that has Isaac Vanarsdale as surety and James Vanarsdale as giving consent for the marriage of William Rice and Polly Vanarsdale. That would make James, Polly's father, and Isaac somehow related. I have had no replies, but since the geography of my query coincides with your area of interest, I am encouraged to pose the question here: http://genforum.genealogy.com/vanarsdale/ February 24, 2000 Seeking vital statistics, parentage and family of John H. Van Arsdale, born circa 1820. He married at an unknown date, presumably circa 1845, Esther Duryee, of Cayuga, New York. This couple had the following children: Isabelle Van Arsdale and Merrium Van Arsdale (married James White). (Elsewhere among this branch of Duryees in the Cayuga area are Ammerman connections as well.) If you can help with my query, I'd be grateful to have your input! Thank you, Richard

NY. I have him in my database. While I can't answer your question wrt his parents. I'll pass on what I have. Joseph was one of what is believed to be three brothers in that area. The others were James and Abraham. As you do, I have that he married Dinah Post, my information was both were born in N.J. I have one child known, Peter VanArsdale, b. Nov. 26, 1826,Niles, NY; d. May 8, 1905; m. Agnes Amerman b. oct 14, 1828, Niles, NY; d. July 8, 1896. They had two children Clemma VanArsdale, and Peter G. VanArsdale. I have this because my wife is a descendent of one of Agnes Amerman's aunts. There is more to this story, e-mail if you're interested. I don't want to post due to questionable supporting evidence. Would be very interested if you've found anything on Joseph's ancestors. Sincerely, Eldon Mickelson mick.mickelson@att.net

I recognize the early names you mention as those being children of Caleb Van Arsdale and his wife who was Esther Shanklin. My group left from the White Sulphur Springs in VA about 1840 and came to Texas by way of Missouri. Susanna V. is buried in the tiny little family cemetery on the outskirts of Austin, the capital city. Her husbnd was James Beverly Littlepage from Allegheny Co. Va (now W. VA) and he was killed soon after they arrived in TX by a runaway mule he was riding home from Austin. I will add your info to the records I have. If you want mine, let me know. Jane and John Sneclode my GR-GR grandparents lived in Wisc. and they are both buried near Cassville as is Miniderd and Nancy. Jane and John had Nancy Annie who married William McCamish in Cassville Wis.and had my grandmother Cora MAe McCamish who married Clinton Kendall. They had a son Ricard who married Helen Yutzy and thus I was born Nancy Kendall Zick.

I've found so far Pauelsen, son of Pauel Asmundsen? in Norway. Also see two Van Arsdale ladies married two different Powelsons. Wondering if they were sisters or cousins?

Fred Sisser indicates Isaac Van and Hannah Peterson and cites his source as "Johannes Nevius and His Descendants" by Honeyman. And yet I see other references indicating that Johannis Van and Magdalena Allen are Sarah's parents. Is there a record of birth somewhere? And how has her birthdate been derived if not from a brith record? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Janet Fenton

    3. Hi Kay, I saw your note to Sharon in regards to a Tuenis VanArsdale. I noticed that you had both John and Tuenis as born about 1722. That seemed odd, so I checked my tree and found that the information that I have is that Tuenis and John are brothers, sons of Christophel Van Arsdalen and Magdalena Reyniersen Van Heagen. I have John as born in Orange County, NY and that he was married to Debora Van Pelt about 1744. I have no other information on either of these two. The Vans are my wife's (Jacqueline Irene Van Asdlan) family, and I don't have much else. If my information is correct, John and Tuenis would be my wife's 2nd cousin 6 times removed, pretty distant. However if you have more on them, I would be interested in checking it out. Joe Stigall Cincinnati, OH jstigall@cinci.rr.com
