Check with your local public library. Although Heritage Quest is a paid site, many libraries have Heritage Quest At Home available for their patron's use with your library card. At Heritage Quest, you can search all census years; most are indexed and others you have to browse. Many libraries now have Ancestry.com also. If your local library doesn't have either of these services, check with the nearest large town near you to see if they do and how you can obtain a library card through them. You can do a search online to find a library near you to see what they offer and their contact information. The monthly charge to a library for Heritage Quest is large but there is no charge to the library patron. You can also check at www.familysearch.org to see where the nearest Family History Center is to you. They have Ancestry.com available at their local libraries and their services are free to the general public. You do not have to be a member of LDS to visit the centers and access their resources. The volunteer staff is friendly and helpful. I went there originally to learn to use a microfilm viewer for a genealogy trip to the WV State Archives in Charleston where all the state records are on reels of microfilm, and have used it to rent and view films there from Salt Lake City ever since. Since it was the Mormons who put all those state and county records on the microfilm at each state's archives in exchange for a copy to keep at their repository in Salt Lake City, you can access the very same records in your home town for a nominal charge. You can see what is available in their catalog at www.familysearch.org. They will not send books to the local centers, but you can get an idea of titles and authors to request through interlibrary loan at your public library. christine On Sat, 18 Feb 2006 09:55:47 -0500 "TracingMyRoots" <tracingmyroots@earthlink.net> writes: > Can someone here can give me tips on how to located the least > expensive > Census subscription at Ancestry.com?
