In particular, I am attempting to identify a man named "Rice" who received a sentence of "forty well-laid lashes, save one" for stealing a pig in 1780 Smithfield (now Blacksburg). My William Rice (b. 1756) married Margaret Hayes (b.1756) on Feb. 8, 1784 in Montgomery Co., VA. I have more info. Email me.
The place called Smithfield, which you mentioned below, is probably Smithfield Plantation. It's now a restored historic site, on the edge of the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, VA. Here's their website & email address. Perhaps they might have more information on this man named RICE. http://civic.bev.net/smithfield/ smithfield.plantation@vt.edu Sandy ----- Original Message ----- From: <rapunzel27@gmail.com> To: <VAMONTGO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 24, 2006 9:32 PM Subject: [VAMONTGO] Re: RICE FAMILY OF MONTGOMERY CO VA > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/yAC.2ACE/433.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Hi Rachel, > I am too am researching the Rice family of Montgomery Co., Va.
