She was the widow of Ellett L. Wirt. She was a war mother, charter member of the Wildwood Civic League, member of Vinton Senior Citizens and the Dogwood Senior Citizens, member of the Vinton Baptist Church for 51 years, and served as Sunday School teacher and officer of the Phebean Class and also active in the WMU. She was predeceased by nine brothers and four sisters. Survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas K. and Norma P. Wirt, Herbert L. and Norma C. Wirt, Loomis (Jack) and Clara J. Wirt; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene L. and Jim E. Garrett; one sister, Grace Rowell; brother-in-law, Broderick Wirt; 11 grandchildren, Michael P. Garrett and wife, Missy, Michele G. Crigger and husband, Rich, Marybeth G. Venable and husband, Chris, Matt S. Garrett and special friend, Terri Cassaras, Laura W. Morris, Melissa G. Wirt, Helen C. Humbert and husband, William, Richard D. Wirt and wife, Wanda, Teresa A. Dowdy and husband, Greg; stepgrandchildren, Rick Meador and Carolyn Meador; 12 great-grandchildren, Jamie M., Shannon M., and Holly N. Garrett, Adam B., Alex B., and Erin E. Crigger, James R. Venable, Christina and Whitney Morris, Carla Wirt, Jonathan Dowdy; stepgreat-granddaughter, Kelly Meador. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2001 from the Lotz Vinton Chapel. The Rev. Byron Greene and the Rev. William E. Hungate will officiate. Burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements by Lotz Vinton Chapel.
