He is the son of the Archibald Thompson who married Nancy Langdon. This Archibald is the son of George Thompson. George is the brother of Archibald Thompson who left a diary. First, because I don't want to get in trouble with Cary, please note that she states she has not tried to prove or disprove the Andrew Thompson - Harriett Simpkins line that is in the Elder John Lawrence book by Ora Belle McCollom. This record has Andrew b. 1801. I did not catch the error, so will try and get the facts Vicki and others have collected and post in an effort to correct this mistake. > No one seems to believe me on this. Would someone please check out > Montgomery Co. VA Deed Book K, page 565 for the deed between Andrew Thompson and Harriet, his wife and William Akers. This deed clearly states that > Andrew is a rightful legatee in lands belonging to the estate of his father, > Archibald Thompson, decd. The transcript of the deed Vicki references is as follows: "I found a Montgomery Co. VA Deed stating "This indenture made this 4th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty, between Andrew Thompson and Harriet his wife of Montgomery County and state of Virginia of the one part and William Akers of said county and state of the other part, witnessed, that whereas the said Andrew Thompson having become the rightful owner of these ??????? claims to the lands heretofore belonging to the estate of his father Archabald Thompson, dec'd ........... ." The land he was selling was on Mill Creek, a fork of Meadow Creek, waters of Little River. Neighbors were Michael Peterman, Daniel Peterman, James Akers and others. Apparently, Andrew is the son of Archibald who married Nancy Langdon 22 Sept.1795 in Montgomery Co. VA. Archabald died before Nov. 1809 when his estate was appraised. I also have a Cynthia Thompson listed as his daughter. She married Allen Crandall 11 Oct. 1824. Cynthia was listed as the dau. of Archibald Thompson, decd. on the marriage record." Based on a research paper by Akers-Thompson researchers in Southwest Virginia, Elswick Thompson, b. 1764, and Patty Akers, b. 1766, had twelve children. The Clan Thompson spent many months attempting to document the children not recorded in the Archibald Thompson Diary (Lewis, Blackburn, Henry and Harmon's births are recorded in the diary); Elizabeth, Mary, Archibald, Claiborne and Joshua were proved by marriage records and deeds. Three children listed, William, Elisha and Andrew, were problematic but subsequent research has linked William as a son, and if there were an Andrew, he isn't the one who married Harriett Simpkins. To my knowledge, there has been no tie for Elisha to Elswick and Patty. I don't know what documentation McCollom has to tie Andrew Thompson to Elswick Thompson and Patty Akers. If anyone has the book, I would appreciate a check to see if there's a source cited. > In a message dated 6/29/00 11:06:50 AM, [email protected] writes: Cary Lynn Hall, a Thompson-Simpkins researcher has sent the following in response to Suzie's post of June 20: (Note: Elswick Thompson, b. 1764, was s/o Archibald Thompson and Mary Elswick; Patty Akers was d/o Blackburn Akers and Unknown Blackburn.
