He was captured in the Battle of Spotsylvania in 1864 in which 9,000 Northern Virginia soldiers were killed. He was a prisoner at Point Lookout Maryland in 5-18-1864 then went to Elmira Prison on August 3, 1864. He was released on June 19th, 1865.
