Land records indicate that John Fielder had 120 acres in Montgomery County on Bull Run Waters of New River. The land office treasury warrant number thirteen thousand seven hundred and eighty-two was granted by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Robert Brooks, Esquire Governor. John Fielder was assignee of John Rathbone.(I tried to make Radford out of the writing but it appears to be Rathbone. There is a John Reaburn on the map. Also the Asa Hall near Hightop Mountain came to Walker County, AL ) The land was surveyed one thousand seven hundred eighty-three in the County of Montgomery on Bull Run the Waters of New River and bounded.............. Can anyone tell me if this was a military warrant or some other type of land warrant? Can anyone tell me where this land (Bull Run) is located in Montgomery County, VA? I have the wonderful map prepared by The Roanoke Historical Society for the Historical Map of Montgomery Co, VA which gives names of the early adventures in the territory from 1750 to 1865. I can locate the New River but no indication of where Bull Run was located. John Fielder was surety when my John Ballenger married Jane McHaffie in Montgomery Co in 1803. I have that marriage license. My records indicate that Isaac Ballenger had 184 acres Greenbrier City District of Augusta Botetourt by virture of a certificate in Right of Settlement given by the commissioners for adjusting titles to unpatented lands in District of Augusta Botetourt & Greenbrier. This land was paid for by ancient composition of one pound sterling paid by Isaac Ballenger assignee of Isaac Tyler, Survey rd day of Dec 1785 lyin in the county of Greenbriar on the Kenhawn below the mouth of Greenbrier River, Sheep Rock Branch .............. John Ballenger a soldier in 6 Virg Reg appears to be the older man who had land in Pittsylvania on Camp Branch of Straight Stone Creek, 210 acres for 20 shillings sterling. This land joined William Collier and land which John Ballenger previously acquired in same county (414 acres for forty- five shilling sterling) This land joined Collinga and Daughteys line. Also William Williams corner was near by. Joseph Ballenger's assignee of William Hix was 127 acres in Amherst both sides of Pedlar River for 15 shillings sterling. He also had 80 acres on both sides Brown Mtn Creek near William Harless. This was land office warrant 11,873 and was April 30th 1782. It appears that Isaac, John, Joseph and Richard may be family members. The John also appears to have gone to Kentucky and back to Pittsylvania Co VA. Richard Ballenger had warrant 15175 for 590 acres and warrant 15175 for 1,000 acres in Jefferson County. I believe from studying maps Jefferson County was what is now Kentucky. there was two Richard Ballenger's in Floyd County at a later date. Father and son who appear to be sons of a Henry Ballenger not son and grandson of this Richard. Can anyone help one the Ballenger or Fielder information? My John Ballenger appears to have gone to Louisiana prior and maybe during the war of 1812 and was an officer (Col or General according to family records) The family is known to have been in Kentucky prior to coming to Alabama. There are many spellings in Montgomery County which could connect if the family did not speak clear English (Barringer, Olinger, Bedinger, Trolinger etc) Or some of these documents may have been incorrectly copied; I try to maintain spellings of Ballinger, Ballenger, Bollinger, Balinger Ballanger or Bellinger in my research; however I am interested in John Breniger 1753 near Alleghany Spring.
